around the 5 minute mark

will be interesting to see if there is a way around this for business accounts created or not. not looking good. once the rollout comes in september it will really tell just how this effects stealth.

I got the message too for the beta test in September and it reads :
After you enter a few personal details like preferred bank account for payouts and your social security number to verify your identity, we’ll manage the rest. We will automatically update your existing account and listings and transfer your existing listings to the new payments model.

Seems like I remember doing a last 4 digits thing on Etsy with this same payment processor. I get the 200/20k need for a EIN, however this reads “Identity Verification”. Very scary. Hopefully there’s a work around.

Yeah well these forums are about STEALTH accounts so Im fairly certain the majority here will not share your happiness if it does come down to adding an SSN to each and every account - unless some workaround can be found.

I find it hard to believe small sellers will want to give their social security number just to sell their stuff around the house. And new businesses opening accounts would have trouble with tying ssn to one person. Hopefully they go the way of Amazon and do Id check if there system detects any potential fraud and a tax information request after a threshold. Only time will tell. At least paypal will be working for the next couple years while we adapt to new changes. Bol

Makes me wonder if they will transition accounts with no verification. If they require verification, imagine all of the accounts that are business related and run EIN. I just dont get why eBay would every leave out the EIN option. A ton of their sellers that make them the most money are running off of business/llc EIN requirements.

IMO like everything else EBay dream up they have not thought this through.

The success of Adyen with EBay depends on Sellers complying with testing. And that is just for starters. You also have to convince Buyers to change their habits as well.

Adyen is up against Paypal as the tried and tested solution for payments for years.

Convincing buyers and sellers that Adyen is the way forward is one mammoth task, given all the glitches EBay experience.

I pity you guys in the USA who are the inevitable Guinea Pigs. This is going to go anything but smoothly.

Time will tell.
Right now the way they word it doesn't sound very convenient. Makes it sound like if you do not have an SSN and a US based bank account then ebay is pretty much closed off to you.
At the very least this means that US stealth accounts will be blocked off to non US users since the payments received in this new system go directly to the attached bank account - and most non US users cannot get a US based bank account (even if a workaround can be figured out for the SSN request).

Interesting how you think "eBay fails everything" and somehow they're still pulling in almost $10Bn in revenue every year. Hmmm... 🤔

Also on an unrelated note, all of you guys are not understanding the new Adyen-eBay relationship. From what I've read, Adyen is only replacing Paypal as eBay's credit card processor (ie, when you check out using credit card numbers directly). Buyers do NOT need to sign up for an Adyen account (and they're not able to anyways, because Adyen is a straight up credit card processor).

Paypal will still remain as a payment option along side of it. So Adyen is only targeting high revenue sellers while casual sellers can still get away with using Paypal only.

I believe paypal will still be the primary payment processor until 2023 no matter what.

I've received payments from customers using the credit card number directly on eBay and it went directly to my paypal account without them using a paypal account. I would think it would work the same way later on, ayden, paypal, it doesn't matter.

I certainly hope so. Would make a lot of sense.
if its any other way they'll be shooting themselves in the foot.

It’s exactly like Etsy.

The only thing this does is force you to make shops in areas where they won’t have Adyen or you are forced to use creative measures on bypassing the ssn issue.

Every account that sells over $7-10,000 will need an ein as Adyen does requests earlier.

This is just like Etsy.

Again - if they require the addition of a US based bank account as a condition to use this payment method it means that non US users will not have access to US based ebay accounts.
I hope paypal remains as a payment method for long term.

I just hope that they continue to use paypal. It's just so convenient at this point.
