Buyer wants to do an off eBay sale...on stealth acct - is it eBay?

Good evening all,

On one of my newer stealth accts (1 mo old), I have 1 seller FB.
A member emails me thru ebay's mail system today.
She's asking for an off ebay sale due to a friend's B-Day coming up,
wants item ASAP, can I ship quicker, yada yada...

She gives me her COMPLETE personal info!

Her acct = '98
Forgot FB #, but over 100.
I did not check to see if she also sells on ebay.

Q: Does this sound normal to any of you in 2009?

I mean, I have 1, that's ONE FB. Would YOU give out your personal info to a eBay newbie like that?
So I'm thinking, could this be eBay trying to see if a new seller would violate tos?

I haven't answered her email yet.

Gut of course tells me not to do this, but I just wanted to hear some thoughts.

It's only a $40 item btw.

This will only work if she is the highest bidder - tell her to bid the amount she wants to pay, then stop auction and sell to highest bidder.

I dont think its suspicious, alot of people buy gifts at last minute, (usually men), it happens to me quite often.

It's a tad unusual, but not exactly cause for concern. As my pal Oompa sez: last minute gift buyers do pop up. Personally, I'm a bit weirded out when people ask me to deal off ebay. It always feels like a setup for technical rule violation.

I take sides with my buddy up above. Have the buyer bid what they will pay, then end the auction early - but do it all on the up-and-up.

I would not offer all my personal info to a 1FB seller, so that's what makes me say "be careful" with this one.

With over 3,000 listings i get 1-5 people a week that want to do off ebay but usually want me to pass the fee savings to them .i just usually check out there buying history to see how active and what they have bought than send them a paypal invoice or tell them to send the money to me...As far as there personal information you are gonne get that if they buy from you anyway through ebay , paypal or both .

I should have mentioned that she is currently not a bidder.

If she was, I "might" have her do as oompa suggests,
but when a non-bidding member sends mail like this on a fresh acct,
I get a bit curious/nervous.

But even then, from what I have learned on this forum,
less "flags" the better in today's eBay universe.
Ending auctions early for any reason seem to raise flags these days.
I had a similar exp. w/another acct ending auctions early.
Some were valid, some, well....

I just did a transaction for $300 off ebay based off an ebay transaction with an account created july 10th .. i dont see the problem with it...

^^^yaw, did you have a 'gut feeling' that all would be OK? Termed has doubts so his choice is as valid. $40 is a trifle to lost an account. Your trnasaction is like a crap shoot. You won.

i had a good feeling because the buyer had about 120 something feedback.. and plus the paypal that i used is a throwaway anyway .. all is well

As a buyer, I had looking for something and finding it's only on eBay. eBay stalks people like mad. PayPal is horrible to use for buying in my experience, also because it stalks. I refuse to let them do expanded use on one of my cards for buying for a lot of reasons too.

Although you never know, unless they are repeat cutomers and in this case thay can't be, then going ahead with the transaction seems in positive count.

Na, think of it like this... You got your own website and some stranger makes an order. That's basically all there is to it.

I will agree if it doesnt feel right dont do it ,, i am setting on about 1000 of a item i know will eventually get veroed and i am still using my original account so not worth the risk -i tried moving them on a different account and made it about 2 months .... i am just waiting for the holidays to hit the flea markets and dump them off .
