Default Found a lost iPhone?

I was browsing online looking for something to resell and found this person selling an iPhone XS max 256gb almost new for $500 .

Called her up and she said the phone was reported lost and she got another one? She said also that I need to get a service to get it unlocked for $100.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but did she just scam Apple and trying to make an extra bucks selling her so called "lost" phone? lol

I'm tempted to give it a shot and re-sell it on eBay for a good margin, but it seems like it'll just cause issues which I don't have the patience for.

How does one "unlock" an iPhone that's been associated with someone else's iCloud account that you don't have access to?

Do these so called unlocking services work for that?

I have no clue, first time I heard of something like this and I was a little baffled when she said that over the phone. Didn't really know what to think.

Just be careful. If she reported it lost they could brick it and you'd be out $500 before its sold.

Ive never known apple to keep a phone 'alive' before the person got the new one.

Seems too good to be true.

Don't do it. I bought an iPhone on ebay once that was marked as used and everything normal. When I got it, it was iCloud locked. You can't do anything with the phone and only apple can unlock it (which they won't do if you can't prove it was originally yours)

You are basically given an expensive brick. The kicker is that when I reported it to ebay, they told me tough luck. After all the times I have been scammed by eBay's loose system, the one time I needed to return an item, they refused.
