Default What will you do if this happens?

I just received a msg from my customers stating that the

Hi there,

Just received my copy of DVD. In your
description of the DVD, it says it is coded to
region 1 & 4 however it is only coded to region 1
so it doesn't play on my DVD player. I've taken
the shrink wrap off but other than that the set is
still in the same condition. Can we organise a
return and refund or do u have a copy of season 4
in region code 4 that u could send me and I can
send this one back to you?

Rgds,
xxx

But the thing is with the DVDs, they are region free... so this wouldn't have possibly happened. How would you reply if you were in my case? I am suspecting that this is a scam.

He may of watched/copied it but there is nothing you can do!

If he goes to PayPal they will find it his favour, he will probably neg you too!

Give him the refund (when you get the DVD back) everyone is happy!

There are many things you can ask that buyer to check.

How old is that DVD player and it runs any other region 4 DVDs without any problem before?

Are there any scratches on the back of the DVD?

Have the buyer try the DVD on another DVD machine or from a computer. Also ask a friend, neighbor, relative or co-worker to test it on a different machine to make sure it's the disc problem.

If you really don't believe what buyer says, you may also ask him to take a video shot, upload to YouTube to actually show you it indeed does not play

that is definitely too much to ask a buyer to do....they will certainly neg you if you requested this from your buyer. another thing, did you use stealth account and address to ship the dvd? will you be giving him your real address to return the item?

They are just ideas. I normally won't ask all these questions in one email. It all depends how the other side reacts in the back & forth emails, then I make my next move accordingly. Sometimes talking to them through the phone is better than emails.

When a buyer comes back to a seller with a problem, there are different things to do. Each time it depends on what is involved.
bluemoon's choices can work as can oompappa's. As the seller anyone has to look at the options to get the best conclusion. If you approach things with 'I'll get a neg' then that opens up the chances of it happening. Have to learn to be flexible and receptive.

Whenever I get a buyer complaint asking for a refund , assuming the item is not worth thousands and could be resold as refurb or something, I always grant a refund if he returns it (in this case the buyer).

Not worth the attention or the neg for a DVD in your case.

I do know what region free means for DVD as I'm in China. You'd better just let it returned and then issue a full refund.

agreed, but also if your sellling "vero" dvds, i would just try to negotiate a partial refund, so that they don't have to send it back and get your REAL address! who knows what kind of people are buying the dvds if you know what i mean

never accept a return for a vero item to your own address, hire a box for that....

I doubt they will go for a partial refund

yeah, but even with a box, don't you have to put your real name on there?

nope, not always but even if you do put a real name or slight variation, thats ok, unless youve got a really strange or distinctive name eg. Whacking Day
