Default Abusing return refund as a seller?

So long as the buyer opens a return case It is possible to offer them half the refund amount and ebay will pay the other half.
I have confirmed this recently and it worked. Do you think it would arouse suspicion if this function is used too often? or is it policy and therefore a completely normal part of doing business?

How so that eBay will pay the half from its own pocket?!! I issued partial refunds before, but the buyer ended up getting back half the amount they paid and not the full one.

I've also never had eBay cover any of my refunds. Maybe this is a UK thing?

Regardless, if it's something you abuse and start costing them a lot of money they're going to shut your account down without a doubt. Simple business decision. If your account is costing more than it's making, or causing more trouble than it's worth, you get axed. Every time.

Maybe its a uk thing. A rep told me about it, as long as you are a top rated seller you can issue a refund for half the amount and ebay would cover the other half amount.
I havent asked the buyer in question to confirm that they did get the other half from ebay but they accepted my half and havent contacted me since so i assume it worked.

I wouldnt be abusing it to much, my fees paid will always be far higher than the amount from this.
But still i dont want to be attracting attention to my account so not sure if i should use it at every opportunity or only seldomly.
I assume ebay flags your account for review for all sorts of reasons and without a flag would never look at you

Ebay Money Back Guarantee for buyers is good for 30 days,if you are top rated plus seller, this could be the case, you paid half and EBay paid half.

Isnt that only for sellers who received a return back which was damaged by the buyer?

Sounds like another way for fraudsters to abuse the system.

Can they do that if the reason your using it is legitimate?

You mean another way to get some money back from ebay after all the money they've defrauded from us.

How would ebay know it's legitimate? Just as they can't know if a buyers reason for the return is legitimate. Do it enough, and bad enough, and I'm sure ebay will take notice, legitimate or not.

Christ... stop abusing it... whenever there' s something good, people always abuse it and the people who actually need it and legitimately can use that perk is screwed over because then the company stops it.

But to answer your question.... YES

It is a courtesy extended to good sellers, there is a limit how many times Ebay would do it.

It's not a courtesy. A courtesy, as an example, would be credit that you have to call in about, that they give you a couple times a year, or based on looking over the situation and deciding. THIS, is standard seller protections given to sellers as a reward for being top rated, and having free returns. As with all things (especially in regards to ebay), they CAN decide you're abusing the system. Just as MBG returns as a buyer aren't a courtesy, but if you do it enough times, ebay will take away that right as well. It's all a standard aspect of the system, that ebay can decide you're abusing.

I figured no way around it just accept all returns regardless and move on. (If buyer opens up a case.)

Anything that takes revenue from ebay’s pocket is strike against you imo. Basically a middle man making 12% while doing nothing. eBay was actually decent back in 2017-2019 when they did issue some sort of reimbursement for sellers who received returns that were damaged by the customer. Now it’s just pure greed on ebays part. Receiving a courtesy is even tooth and nail. Honestly ebay is in position where they don’t lose but only gain.

Regardless, you'll be losing out because it would increase the return stats. I wouldnt risk that, unless it is on a baby account

Ugh. You're referring to when ebay allowed restocking fees. If you do free returns, you essentially have restocking fees, up to 50%. Tho, fyi guys, if you don't give the full amount, they don't refund FVF. You gotta call them.

I am not sure exactly because ebay changes it’s policy like it’s life depended on it. All I can recall is when buyer sent me back item that was so poor packed it looked like a 5 year old packaging job. Took pictures and eBay reimbursed me for full amount.!
