Now that I've thought about it for a second, that's a lot of work for $20k/year. I'd rather just sell 3-4 additional items per day lol... way easier.

What WOULD be awesome, though, is if they did away with the quarterly limit! Which I never understood, anyway.

Yeah, if you're spending a quarter of a million a year just on ebay alone, you'll get a nice $2400 back. A whopping $6 a day. yay. You can go buy that starbucks coffee every morning now.
You shouldn't think this way, trust me cash is being minted on eBay. I was actually doing the $500 max on 3 buying accounts for a while until eBay changed certain things. On a good year I spend more than 250K buying things off eBay. There are bigger guys on here doing way more than I am, it all sounds like a mirage until you're actually doing it ...

Money is money, I buy already on eBay so that extra 1% is a chunk of change that I use to buy a nice item or two as a 'reward' for myself. And like ebay1974 mentioned, you still get the 1-5% rewards from your credit cards.

Yes, I have lots of business credit, and no starbucks for me; I make my coffee at home

Do you really believe you couldn't make more from the 5-8% random offers, than the 1% daily ones? Really think about it. Most of my ebay bucks came from those offers. the 1% meant jack **** to me. It was just there. You'll reach the $2k a year easily. Literally just need to spend $30-40k during those windows, and you'd hit the limit, compared to your $200,000. And you could then spread it out over multiple buying accounts. I have 4 buyers accounts. Each one of them received the same email that ebay bucks are sticking around. Not once have I see the email, or anyone show proof of the email, that says no more ebay bucks period.
Let me try to give you a scenario without giving too much away.

I purchase very niche products so I cannot really time when I buy them. I buy when they are available. So it could be 2 days of 5% bucks where I buy nothing because there is nothing available that meets my criteria.

At a flat 1% it means I always earn something when I buy versus a flat 0% and 5% bonus periodically where I may not make any purchases in that window. And we have NO IDEA yet how often they will offer the bonus.

I will say that it was always fun when the 5% bonus came around and I could make purchases to hit that $500 very quickly.

Here is a sample email from one of my accounts that didn't get the Bonus Bucks text, hope it helps clear a lot of your doubts

=============

Thank you for being a Bucks member, and a valuable part of our eBay community. We’re reaching out to tell you about upcoming changes to the eBay Bucks program.

After careful consideration, we’ve decided to retire the 1% earnings reward on everyday purchases starting April 1st, 2021.

You can also earn extra rewards through the eBay Mastercard®, earning up to 5x points on eBay purchases.‡ Now through March 11th, 2021, open a new eBay Mastercard, spend $250 in the first 30 days and receive a $50 statement credit.* Click here to learn more.

We hope you’ll keep checking back in for all the exciting finds you’ve come to expect on eBay: from the rare to the retro to the right now.

Sincerely,

The eBay Bucks Team

(if they keep the quarterly max intact(which is bullshiit IMO)) That means $40,000 per year will get me the same $2,000.

That would make it worth my time to consider making several more stealth buying accounts, to spread my typical $350,000-$400,000 annual ebay spend over 10 accounts, therefore netting me 10 x $2,000 = $20,000 a year just for buying the same shiit through ebay that I always have.

Little bit better than $2,000!
Glad we came to at least some what of an agreement

And regarding your 2400 number, $2,000 is the max you can earn per year. $500 every quarter.

(it used to be 2% which was awesome)
Also using ebates?

And sort of aligning with my earlier statements, my accounts that received the email stating "bonus bucks and 12 months" got the 5% ebay bucks offer. The accounts that received emails OMITTING the part about bonus bucks and 12 months did NOT get the 5% offer.

I have four accounts. Only one of them got the 5% offer, but all said bonus bucks and 12 months

Im in the same boat. Ordered several $1500-2000 items and a few higher end items. Ebates, 5% bonus bucks and 3% cashback. Saved a good amount of money on things I needed in the next couple months.

Why is the base earn being retired?
After careful and thorough consideration, we decided to retire the 1% earning as we look to continuously optimize our offerings. The good news is that we will continue to offer limited time eBay Bucks Bonus promotions for earning eBay Bucks. In addition, all Bucks earned on or after April 1st , 2021 through the Bonus offers will now be valid for 12 months.

Not even sure how some were trying to put a positive spin on this.

There is nothing good about this for buyers. eBay is penny pinching and doing everything to make their numbers look good for shareholders.

again, like 95% of my ebay bucks were earned through the 5-8% promotions. So yeah, it can be good for buyers. And they know this will excite buyers to purchase large quantities of stuff, so it's good for sellers too. a 1% all the time bonus, loses it's appeal after awhile. That's how the human brain works, ya know. Sure, when you're spending $200k, you can see bigger numbers, and your brain reacts more to that. But if someone buys something for $100, a $1 back feels like almost nothing. but $5-8? Yeah, that feels way better.

100% of mine were at the everyday 1%. I guess now if I want the free $2k/year, I'll just hafta keep an eye on the bonus bucks specials and act on that, like I did in the above post.

Let me try again. When it was a flat 1% all the time, we also got bonus bucks offers. Now we have bonus bucks only. How does bonus bucks only ever equate to being better than always flat 1% PLUS bonus bucks???

The only way is if they offer bonus bucks at a much higher frequency now than before. Let's wait and see ...

In fact they used to offer up to 5%,10%,15% bonus along with the flat 1%. Then the 15% slowly disappeared, then the 10% slowly disappeared, now the flat 1% is gone. Seeing a trend?

I'm starting to think you're just trolling for fun.
