How I released my parcel from DHL customs East Midlands

Hi everyone,

I would just like to share my experience on here and hopefully it will help someone out in the near future.

So let’s get to it. I had a parcel which was held at DHL East Midlands customs. The parcel weighed 6KG and the value was around £300. It was on hold in Germany Leipzig for 30 minutes then transferred through to UK and was held their for one week.

I received missed phone calls from DHL and received a letter in the post from them too. Now inside the parcel is replica items of an original item and what I was told to do was to send proof of payment and the value contents to DHL. Now if I would of showed my original invoice then my parcel would of been seized.

What I did was place an order for a similar product none branded 15pcs and value $90 this is what my supplier put on my invoice so I had to place an order what my supplier put on the invoice.

I emailed the order to DHL and the very next day the parcel was released from customs and the day after my parcel was delivered.

I was also able to get a refund for the order placed for invoice to show DHL.

So if anyone else out their has a parcel at customs and DHL want proof of payment then you can do what I did. It’s important to find out what the supplier puts on your invoice and value contents so you can then purchase an order representing the parcel you are going to receive.

Hopefully this post will help someone out their with orders held at DHL customs.

If it was related to the importation of potentially counterfeit goods it's Border Force who would be writing to you, DHL do not have the right to open goods.

DHL want to calculate the VAT and any Import Duty due which, at $90, will still be payable. I guess they'll invoice you in due course. (have you received the parcel?)

I get what you're saying about the content of the invoice to appease DHL, but I doubt it would save you if it was officially opened and scrutinised.

Yes I received the parcel and the parcel was not opened they believed the invoice I showed them and because the invoice is under the customs amount to pay I paid no customs as well.

As I said, it wasn't opened because they're not interested in the contents nor entitled to open it.

There is no minimum for VAT any more.
