They are killing the marketplace by following this policy just to make short-term profits.

I see nothing wrong with this. Promoted listings have helped my listings out tremendously. Everyone wins

It's driven prices up in my niche by a good 20-25% because you have to promote to get any sales. Almost all of my orders say "sold through promoted listings".
I don't know if it's killing the market but it's definitely inflating prices. If it gets so bad that eBay sellers can't compete with walmart due to promoted listing costs.. I could see how that would be a problem. I don't think we're there yet though.

| So, you guys are having to raise the product price just to be able to bid high with the promoted listings? What percentage rate is average in your niche?

Yes. eBays' "suggested ad rate" has been rising since promoted listings first became a thing. It's because everyone selling these items is gradually rising their ad rate to compete while also raising their prices.
So while my listings are technically taking in more money now, it's all going to eBay.

Holy sh!t... that would take all my profit haha... last year when I was still selling, my categories were just a couple percent. Hopefully it's still low.

Nobody is letting that happen though.. so eBay is just causing inflation.

It depends on the listing but I'd say on average when I'm bidding half of what they want I'm 5 or 6 listings down.
On one account I have a fast selling listing that's consistently on the top while paying about 2/3 of the recommended fee. Traffic and click-through rate still make a difference, just not as much as they used to.

I'm assuming you know this, so are you viewing it from a fresh browser?

I'm assuming you know this, so are you viewing it from a fresh browser? | If you only view where it sits in search, then they have no item which idea you are trying to find.

It's an educated guess based on the occasional search and my volume of sales. I almost never search for my own listings unless I'm not getting sales.
