Best Way Of Dealing With Scam Buyers On Ebay

Hey Guys,

I have a buyer on ebay, who allegedly hasn't received an item I sent on 23rd September regular second class post. The items is low value and not worth sending with tracking. When I check the buyers feedback they have left negative feedback for 16 different transactions in the last year saying they didn't receive the items in question. They have a feedback of 250. To have that many items go missing with Royal Mail in a year is impossible. They are clearly scamming sellers.

I know what will happen if I don't refund they buyer, ebay will as I have no tracking. I've had situations like this before and done a chat with an ebay agent and asked how can it be genuine for a buyer to have this many items go missing, and all they say is an item has to has tracking to prove it has arrived.

Anyone got any advice on dealing with scammer like this?

All you can do is refund mate. Always a bitter pill to swallow but you are in a no win situation without tracking.

agent006140 10-12-2023 01:07 PM

where does your buyer live?
It is possible due to mail theft or just poor mail service,a buyer in rural Mexico often filed INR on low priced trinklets and sellers just mail with no tracking to Mexico.
She was banned from buying,reason-hazard to Ebay seller community.
You should report your buyer.
You can block her.from buying from you in the future

Many Ebay sellers who sell postcards,ribbons,stamps,magazines,coupons do not use tracking,low price items .

And eBay won't do anything about it.

Ebay has no way to know who is telling the truth,there is a saying -Dont sell anything you cant afford to lose

You could try and contact eBay by either phone or chat and report the situation, I have had in the past done this with a habitual and serial negative feedback leavers.

At present you have to refund otherwise they can open an INR case that you have to refund or eBay will do it for you and you have a hit on your metrics..

Yep, when you go cheap you pay. Tracking is a must.

You will have no choice but to refund, ebay will not help you at all other than maybe remove any feedback if they're a serial negger. (Ive had a couple removed even in similar situation to yours).

All you can do is make a claim from Royal Mail, at least it alerts them if there's a problem address. I do it for every single lost item, regardless of value.

Even though I only ever get a packet of stamps as my compensation this is often more than the item cost me to buy in, I don't see it as a net loss.

You get that refund for first class no tracking? Even in the form of stamps, that nice of Royal Mail to keep customers happy

Yes, you get a book of 8 stamps @£1.25 each no questions asked. That's a tenner for an item which maybe cost me £1 to buy in and £1.55 in lost postage. Net gain and why I never get wound up by cheap item claims.

I will block the buyer then report to eBay wait a bit if it has not been banned I think the only solution would be the refund to avoid claims and as it is a cheap item there is no big loss

For a £5 item? I don't think so.

You have to have proof of postage to make a claim though.

Ebay will take note of your complaint,if he is a habitual INR complainer,Ebay will remove his buying privilege,but he can still sell

Did you send as 2nd class letter, large letter or small parcel? Large letters & parcels get a delivery confirmation scan (if the postie remembers to scan it)

Dont sell anything you cant afford to lose on Ebay.
if you dont want to pay for tracking and come here and cry about your loss,nothing we can do for you.
Ebay sellers who sell low price items and do not use tracking,usually expect some losses,but make enough to cover it.

How can you prove you sent it then?

Not crying about it, asking for opinions.

You've got a terrible way of responding to people.

The Royal Mail website states proof of postage as below :

Certificate of posting (provided automatically for Royal Mail Signed for® items and Royal Mail Special Delivery Guaranteed by 1pm ®(not posted on account) and available on request at Post Office® branches for other items);

Horizon certificate of posting;

Where a collection from home or workplace has been booked, a Collection

Notification or email receipt received after the item has been collected;

Without it how would they even know you had posted the item? You could not bother sending anything and making claims.

I've already told you you do not need proof of posting to make a claim, why not simply make a claim and find out for yourself?

If you used a stamp then there's nothing you can do, you should buy your postage online instead of using stamps to avoid problems like this.

I don't think it'll work if he used stamps, if you use postage purchased online through Royal Mail I believe they can see if the postage has been scanned or not somewhere along the way so that's the reason you get a refund, but with a stamp I don't think they will refund since there's no proof at all that you even mailed something, though I'd give it a try anyway.

you can bid on your own auction,and call the buyer if he has not paid,at year end.
There is also escrow service offered by third party,seller has to pay for listing and extra pictures.
FVF was like 5%,you mail a check to Ebay.
Anyone can leave feedback.

It will work. I made it clear in my earlier post that they will give you a book of stamps worth a tenner if you cannot provide proof of postage and as I said, this more than covers my losses on cheaper sales.
