How is ebay really tracking?

I have changed ip address, deleted all cookies, stripped my pics of info, renamed and resized them. tried changing my description and main title info. Can sell on regular ebay, but always get booted on ebay motors. Any ideas how they really track.

ivegotinfo 11-27-2007 02:43 PM

- did you log in to the email address from your old ip? (tracking pics)
- same name/email?
- did you clean all temp files also?
- your computer name in my computer? (read that in ebayreplay ebook, right click my computer go to properties, and computer name, change to like MSHOME, and also click the "change" button and there change the name too, to like MSWINDOWS, so its generic. and not like "johns-computer"

sycore 11-27-2007 02:47 PM

Haven't tried deleting temp files or changing computer name.
Thanks will give those a try.

koalawash 11-27-2007 04:50 PM

Does it say you were linked to a previous account? Sometimes they will boot you just for starting to sell too quickly.

ebayhateluv 11-27-2007 08:51 PM

FYI- some recent suspensions- they do not even give you the name of the acct you were linked to (unless in my case, too many to list??)--
it just said linked to user <.........>.

sycore 11-27-2007 09:20 PM

It used to be very easy for me to get back on, clear cookies change ip and I was good to go, but it seems ebay is tracking another way now. So i am trying to eliminate things one by one. I stripped out all the metatags in my pics, resized and renamed them so they are not tracking pictures.

ebayhateluv 11-27-2007 11:07 PM

POssibly they set their Sniper like we do to snipe /search for auctions- i.e. they pick maybe 10 keywords from your auction- then when that comes up in a que (along with other similarities)-age of acct less than suspended acct, etc. -they target that acct? I am going for the less obvious things, as i know we have been racking our brains on this question......

imjustme 11-27-2007 11:48 PM

There's no way for them to track your computer's name. They'd need a java applet or something like that for it and there's nothing like that on the eBay website.

The funny thing is, I've used the same HTML and same pictures (on a different photobucket account, of course) across suspended and not suspended accounts and never got any problems.

sycore 11-28-2007 09:36 AM

I think they are tracking me across my ip range, while it varies for all 4 values the first two place are usually only one of 4 or 5 combos. Example 67:140:xxx:xxx or 74:239:xxx:xxx

I know they must track words in the main listing title but doubt the track item description. As a test, I copied exactly an ad from another seller selling the same supposed "banned" item for a few months and his auctions don't get touched. So if they are tracking word, his should be pooping up also.

Does anyone want to trade seller accounts? I think it would help answer a few questions. Example, if I open a seller account for you and you put of an item that got you banned and it stays up, they must be blocking entire ip ranges for certain new accounts.

imjustme 11-28-2007 09:40 AM

You realize you can disguise description in the auction listing?

Use HTML code something like, instead of:

"font code" Brand New Jaguar "font code"

use:

"font code" Brand New "font code" Ja "font code" gu "font code" ar "font code"

:D

imjustme 11-28-2007 09:58 AM

By code, I mean this.

Instead of:

Code:

<font face="verdana" size="2">Jaguar</font>
use this:

Code:

<font face="verdana" size="2">Ja</font><font face="verdana" size="2">gu</fon><font face="verdana" size="2">ar</font>

ivegotinfo 11-28-2007 01:25 PM

whoa. and it works?
holy crap lol.

sycore 11-28-2007 01:47 PM

Yes, i have used a variation of that in the past. Another tip, is if it is a new account list some common items, when the finally show up when you do a search for the item (usually 4-8 hours later) Just revise the ad to what you really want to sell. Another tip is to list a few items, then do a one time paypal payment for $1 to the seller fees.
I hate ebay and paypal with a passion, but they are only game in town. (Didn't that used to be consider an illegal monopoly?) Let's try to figure these *******s out.

imjustme 11-28-2007 02:29 PM

They $1 payment really helps?

sycore 11-28-2007 03:37 PM

Yes, the $1 paypal payment seemed to help on one on mine account in the past.

Just found some new cookies from ebay
owner@e-2dXXXXXXdpmao.stats.esomnitur

stats.esomniture.com

and rtm

rond100 11-28-2007 03:56 PM

I spend as much of the 25 dollar gift card as I can. Let them bill it. Then overlist for 45 days

Ahhhhhh I never thought about that. Good tip!

ivegotinfo 11-29-2007 08:57 AM

^ couldnt whoever the ebay spy on this forums be, just get ebay to implement something to prevent this?
and also. if we all start using this, wouldnt it be easy for ebay to figure out who we actually are on ebay? and link us to this forum, and easier suspensions?

imjustme 11-29-2007 09:28 AM

They can't disable this, unless they disable HTML codes in general. And then that would ruin pretty much any advantage sellers have over their competitors, if not ruin the eBay platform completely.

sycore 11-29-2007 07:55 PM

After numerous trail and error methods of opening new selling accounts, i think the only things they track are ip ranges, cookies and title descriptions of "banned" items of new accounts less then 3 months old or lower then 5 feedback.

ivegotinfo 11-30-2007 02:12 AM

man u guys are smart lol.
im going to try this.

so basically if i want to sell a "BRAND NAME" shirt lets say,
i would list a ... "black shirt mens size XL"
then a few hours later, revise and add the brand name to the title, and to the description?

You have to wait until it shows up when doing a search usually 4-8 hours. It usually helps if you have at least one feedback. If you got suspended for selling a certain brand name like Nike, make sure you change the title description as much as you can. Or use the title description of someone else selling the same thing and change it around.

imjustme 11-30-2007 12:18 PM

It helps from eBay spotting the item, but it doesn't help from the trademark owner to find the item afterwards by searching....

clearing up concerns

Hi, Firstly thankyou for the insightfull ebay suspension resolution seems to be very helpfull. Im from Australia and obviously been suspended i want to use the information provided but b4 i do i want to clear up some questions.

Firstly if i use a credit card number does it have to match the name on the new ebay account personalle details?

Secondly do i need to have funds in it so does Ebay still charge it and refund amount to confirm legitimacy of the credit card.

3rd quiery is can i use old images that were used to post previous listings on my suspended account. Is there any ebay attachments or tracking devices in them?

Also i would like to add to the post about branding that before i was suspended everything was fine untill i played around with the listings in such a way. I had sold few nikes with no porblems inplacing the word nike after several sales they set limitations on my account. After the limits i did the waitingprocess waiting till listings are in main catergory then put in NIKE knowing it wont sell with out the name. Im not sure but this drew attention i must have gotten flagged cuz straight after this i was suspended.

EbaysSwornenemy 11-30-2007 07:02 PM

i forgot something!

how do we get payments out of paypal if all is good? can it be transferred into the gift visa card?

How bout when some customer wishes to pay for goods via bank transfers? Is it safe to put that info in ebay replies? i doubt it but maybe someone knows for sure?

I got so many questions with such just a single wish to have a unsuspendable ebay account!

imjustme 11-30-2007 10:13 PM

Firstly if i use a credit card number does it have to match the name on the new ebay account personalle details?

A credit card most likely. A debit card, usually not. Gift cards can also sometimes by used in any name/address.

Secondly do i need to have funds in it so does Ebay still charge it and refund amount to confirm legitimacy of the credit card.

A few dollars is enough.

3rd quiery is can i use old images that were used to post previous listings on my suspended account. Is there any ebay attachments or tracking devices in them?

I always use my old images, I just change the name of them a bit.

how do we get payments out of paypal if all is good? can it be transferred into the gift visa card?

Into the bank account :)

Bank transfers are allowed, no problem.

EbaysSwornenemy 11-30-2007 10:58 PM

thank you

You do know i mean placing a bank account number that has been restricted from ebay. So would that be safe to put the number in the actual message sent from a member that wants to pay bank transfer. And i think you mean i can have my restricted bank account # in pay pal because they do not share this info with ebay?
All i have to do is have a different email address for paypal. But the rest info must be accurate so i can withdraw funds i think?

I missed out on the XMAS rush damn ebay whyyyyyyyyyyy lol

imjustme 11-30-2007 11:16 PM

eBay and PayPal share a lot of information, I would think they share bank account information too. For example, I did a credit card chargeback to eBay once and I couldn't use that credit card anymore with Skype (also an eBay company), so I wouldn't recommend using the same bank account.

rapunzel_01 12-02-2007 12:21 AM

dont let a customer report you LOL :D

Your right. thats why they will ban you if you revise a listing after it post to ebay

Jonas 12-15-2007 08:08 PM

They never did anything to me for revising ever. I'm thinking maybe you're adding or removing large amounts of text and so it's a large change rather than a you must a spelling error on 100 listings and make a tiny change.

Well how much are you changing when it suspends you?

Chris Hanson 12-15-2007 08:13 PM

Well I only did a spelling mistake of 2 letters 2 times

sycore 12-17-2007 03:40 PM

The testing continues changed ip, mac adreess(just in case) cleared cookies, . OK, learned a few more things that apply to me, your expireance may differ. First Ebay motors is harder to get to sell on then regular ebay, as they seem to pre authorize your account for car austions and store your VIN. Second as is widely known, new account get a look over from Trust&satey monkey before your listing will post. While VERO item and keywords get you automatic suspended on new or old accounts, it is not the cause of immediate bans.
I can register a new account and buy right away. new accounts seem to be limited to buying around $200,000 or 15 items which every comes first.
My new accounts get immediatley suspended when trying to list any item, even common everyday item under $25 with or without picture.
So it seems, unless your item is VERo, your title, description and pics do not trigger automatic suspension.
It also does not seem to matter if you use gift card or real credit card. I also gave them the phone and addrees of the taco bell down the street and gaot suspended, Now I could be getting banned for trying to sell immediatley after registering, but other than that that just leaves them ip ranges, name, address, phone and gift card or credit card info.
They may be banning caertain gift card of the ones I am using all start with the same for digit bin number 4042

Chris Hanson 12-17-2007 04:05 PM

maybe they just dont want you on at all

sycore 12-17-2007 05:27 PM

LOL...They haven't wanted me on for the last 10 years. Still have 10 active accounts. About 20 that are "aging" buying $1-$2 item for feedback.

It does seems the days of selling with a brand new account immediately are over. Used to be simple cookie clean, ip change with a new VCC and you were good to go again, but it has gotten a lot harder.
No doubt, we will eventually get around anything they can do.

Chris Hanson 12-17-2007 07:20 PM

No, the age of selling on a brand new account has never been over. i opended up 3 accounts within the last week , all brand new, only 1 got booted, the other 2 is up and running on a 0 feedback account.. and quit buying ⊗⊗⊗⊗ feedback. I hate that Shi*..lol

sycore 12-17-2007 09:40 PM

So as soon as you put in the credit card to open the seller account, you listed item and 2 of the 3 were ok? Was this on ebaymotors? Looking more and more to me, like it is my ip range, I get different ips all the time, but I only have 5 different prefixes for the first two places: IE
67:125:XXX:XX
71:56:XXX:XXX
etc.

Time to go back to my 56K dail up account, but that thing is sooo slow!

Chris Hanson 12-17-2007 10:35 PM

This was on regular ebay

keceli 12-18-2007 01:53 PM

I have a question: How do you guys get paid?
you are using ⊗⊗⊗⊗ names and addresses? Isnt it a hassle to have people send you the payment? Can somebody explain that please? (with or without PayPal).
I looked but couldnt see much said on this topic..
