Seller account with no credit card?

My friend just signed up for a ebay account and seller account and they didn't even ask him for a credit card at ALL. Not even for the sellers account. He is selling goods right now and they didnt even ask for a credit card or anything else. he does have a .net email address. i just thought tht was kind of weird.

bollock2ebay 05-04-2007 07:10 AM

I might have the answer but if I post it and ebay read it they might close the loophole if I'm right

aspkin 05-05-2007 04:20 AM

PM it then. We won't tell. :p

Also it could be the country they're listing in. Most of the eBay's are different.

I just set up a new account .. and it did not ask?

I have done a couple in the past and you must fill out Seller info .. I spent a 1/2 hour looking for a form or something ? but it only takes me to the section for catagories and allows me to start selling? So confused?

I did not do it as I am using Auctiva ..but I was looking to start selling and trying to find the place where they ask for CC and othr seller info?

Anyone also find this on new accounts??

EB100:confused:

I need to clear out my cache, but after that...please third that request! :)

JackNoMore 06-18-2007 09:04 PM

Haven't received any PM. Anyone have an answer to this mystery?

That is really really odd. What is the name of his email host? PM if you don't want to give it away openly.

Ballsack 06-21-2007 04:04 AM

Where the hell is cpugeek to answer my questions dammit? :)

Ballsack 06-21-2007 11:39 PM

Isn't that worse? I have no interest in submitting personal information to become id verified. I'm shocked that no one asked cpugeek the same questions I had.

JackNoMore 06-22-2007 06:14 PM

sellersaccount> you can...I wouldn't recommend it though.

Ballsack 06-22-2007 09:06 PM

If I'm not mistaken you still need a CC# to give them so they can verify you. They just won't charge it.

Ballsack 06-26-2007 04:14 PM

I don't think I want to start listing auctions in china.

tripleflip18 07-11-2007 12:51 PM

Hi, my first post. Very strange, i just listed first auction after opening an account and I did not have to go through step # 7 "7. Create a seller account with a new Credit Card and Bank Info" It let me list it without putting that down.

JackNoMore 07-11-2007 03:01 PM

I want to open a new account today or tomorrow if possible and could use this information. Do you mind PM'ing me with the steps you were able to do this and whether it was a US based account? Thanks :)

tripleflip18 07-11-2007 06:09 PM

I just used usa address, bought a virtual card at simon and worked, listed item without ebay asking me anything, im going to be opening another account tomorrow. and will update if its giving me same thing

Ballsack 07-11-2007 07:42 PM

That's to simple. What isp and email host are you using?

tripleflip18 07-11-2007 10:22 PM

COMCRAP and yahoo

Ballsack 07-12-2007 12:24 AM

Weird. You may have just gotten lucky somehow. If they let you set up another without anything just keep doing it until they start asking for a CC. You'll need those accounts in the future.

J dub 1984 07-12-2007 09:41 AM

I set up a new account today at the library and it didnt ask me for any credit card info i could just post whatever and and put in my new email linked to the same paypal i was mad i wasted 20 bucks on a simon card:eek:

tripleflip18 07-13-2007 07:27 AM

Opened new account and this time i used diff isp, asked me for cc and bank info.

Ballsack 07-13-2007 03:07 PM

Comcast and public libraries get a free pass? Again weird.

JackNoMore 07-13-2007 03:31 PM

I wonder if it works for educational libraries as well.

JackNoMore 08-21-2007 01:44 PM

You signed up to sell immediately after registering?

JackNoMore 08-22-2007 07:40 AM

From everything I've seen and read here and elsewhere, it's been generally thought that selling on the first day you register to bid is bad. I take it you have had no such experience lately?

DogFacedBoy 08-22-2007 11:25 AM

Hey, I would obviously like to know how to do this too.
Would appreciate a PM with any info.

There seems to be no consistency in anything that EB does.
Why is it that some times I can make an auction private and then the next time that option doesn't even show up?
I've figured a way around it, but it just points out that on EB what worked and was policy yesterday, won't necessarliy be so tomorrow.

JackNoMore 08-22-2007 01:56 PM

So...just making sure I'm reading you right here...you've not signed up for, registered a seller account, AND started selling all on the same day before... correct?

If I'm understanding you correctly...what you're doing is registering the account--even setting up the seller account--but not selling until the account is over 30 days old. Which seems to be a much safer way to go about it.

Although, would the simple act of adding a CC (or in this case not even having to) to open a seller account be enough for ebay to red flag you? OR would you have to actually LIST before you were red flagged on such an account (under the 30 days)?

Something to consider. Although I'm not sure how you would test this if you didn't have to submit a CC to sell.

DogFacedBoy 08-22-2007 02:21 PM

I've got a new account set up for about 10 days now and have bid on several items, but not won any yet...on purpose. Just establishing a pettern if I decide to use it for shill-bidding later.
I did not register a CC with it so I haven't tried to sell anything yet.
After learning the things that I have learned here I might just set up a couple more accounts and safeguard them a little better.
I guess I could go to the mall (Simon) and get a gift card before I try to sell on the new account just in case they ask me for one.
If they don't ask, I'll just save it and keep creating accounts until I need it.

JackNoMore 08-22-2007 05:09 PM

Did you have a particular system to this Modee, or just decided to up and sign up and sell one day? Everyone I've heard from says to avoid it. Too much of an attention getter.

Which reminds me...have you had any experience (good/bad/other) with changing your user name and if that draws red flags? I've read that changing pretty much anything on your ebay profile is to be avoided as it attracts attention and maybe the bot. Trying to determine if that's just a rumor.
