He had less than one hundred. I believe it was all from buying. Not to sure!

Sadly, yes. People wont read the ads. They cant seem to be bothered...
It baffles me sometimes how anyone can spend any money without reading at least some of the ad.

I dont disagree. But they probably shouldn't be punished by getting ripped off. They just need the computer taken away....

MadSam 11-22-2010 09:14 PM

Exactly, preying on the people who don't bother to read the listings is not a license to rip them off.

[QUOTE=jeffweico;184322]Here is one more thought...

If you are fortunate enough to have been blessed with above average intelligence, why not use it to help people? Or at least use it to figure out how to make money without HURTING PEOPLE?

Agree. It's a shame they would target busy young folks with babies. And that stuff is so expensive they lock it up at the store. Just like cigarettes. If they don't people will rip it off.

But yeah, Mind boggling how people don't read. Had my share.

They will get their refund with the buyer protection. Might have the return the picture. Spend another 42 cents + DC.

Many people have tried this. There are stories all over the internet. I'm sure some sellers got away with it back in the day, but not anymore. Hell, even Judge Judy weighed in on this:

YouTube - Judge Judy destroys an eBay scammer

Should people read the listings? Sure. But the fact that they do not read every single word does NOT give you a license to rip them off. It is ILLEGAL, it is IMMORAL, and it is just PLAIN WRONG! Sorry if I burst any bubbles.

Saw this episode~! So funny~!

I've seen some Apple-tards mindlessly bidding on a Lockerz invite with an iPad as its main listing picture all the way up to 600 dollars

Well, they probably lose their eBay and PayPal accounts. And if the money is not returned, they can be sued in civil court.

Technically, I suppose they could be charged with a crime, but in reality they don't usually prosecute this type of stuff.

Speechless!:faint:

Their was a criminal case about this. A woman sold a 'picture of a mobile phone', the eBayer took her to court... the court ruled in the buyers favour because she put the weight of the item on the listing which was like 120g, a piece of paper doesn't weigh that.

I reckon had she not have put that she would have got away clean, so technically speaking if he describes everything exactly in a court of law he could get away with it.

oompaloompa 11-25-2010 05:59 AM

what a clever buyer would do is, do a SND dispute and then just give a reason other than the fact the description is misleading, say it is a torn picture or something, return it with tracking and get refund. (oh, and return a poop for good measure)

There was this famous scammer from Europe that listed thousands of vehicles from many sources that sell cars from the net and listing them on ebay motors. He clocked up millions of dollars. Him and his father were doing it. they got caught and arrested but the money was gone!

mr888 11-25-2010 02:30 PM

You guys are making too much of this, OBVIOUSLY he won't get paid, either the person backs out before paying or disputes after, so just a waste of time

pod 11-25-2010 02:39 PM

depends on the account. If they built it up long enough I believe the plan is to get as much out as they can before it all crumbles down. Out and/or spent... Any amount is free money so even a fraction is what they are after. They can stall the fools long enough to make some of it pay off. Sadly its crap like this that makes us have to put up with so much. They will get some and that makes the system tougher....
