Selling limit placed on new seller account

This new seller account was setup 2 months ago. I did not start selling until last week. I currently have about 10 items on the site. I tried to list more items last night and I received a message from ebay that said I had reached the limit and won't be able to list anymore new items until 30 days later for this category. My item are not VERO. I wonder if this is a new ebay policy. Does anyone have the same problem?

besttimedeals 06-23-2011 09:21 AM

All new accounts are like that now unless you link to previous account or verify your identity by taking quiz or calling in.

There is a way around the dollar amount limit, but not the item number limit.

rsot 06-23-2011 11:20 AM

The 10 item/500 or 1000 limit is one of the policies that eb ay CAN impose on new accounts. Best bet is to spread sales over different accounts.

For future posters, keep in mind that this is an open subforum to the public =)

Can you tell me more about the "calling in" and taking quiz"? Also, do I need to wait 90 days for them to resume my selling limit?

JRYAN34 06-23-2011 12:18 PM

limits will never be 100% removed, typically they are increased 50-100% every month if you stay away from vero and arent selling junk or running into any issues

TurtleCove 06-23-2011 03:45 PM

Yes, where do I find a link to this "quiz" that you speak of?

doughboykilla 06-23-2011 09:15 PM

Theres a way u can verfiy your id online through ebay to raise the limit i did it on my ex's account and they ask u ?'s that only u would know which i knew them all and it worked like a charm. It wont work on stleth accounts though

Also the limits apply after the first item is listed for sale. like if u have a account thats 5 years old and its a buyers then u decied to make it a sellers then u will still have the same limits just as if u had a new account.

I believe you are thinking about the MC010 verification phone call.

If you decide to call eBay about raising the limit, they'll ask for information such as where you got the goods from and etc. Very risky, and plenty of people has gotten their selling rights restricted because of the attempt to raise the limit. However, your limit is resetted every 30 days.

I heard you get the 50 item/5,000 limit when you link your paypal right after you create your account. Others have reported this.

besttimedeals 06-23-2011 11:59 PM

I linked a brand new paypal account and only got 20item/$1000 limit.

Maybe if you let the paypal account age of take a payment first you get 50 item.

Lot of experimentation can lead to different results - more accounts you create, more info is learned.

My daughter opened an account today in her own name and on her own address - no limits - she is on the electoral role - think about it people!

Hopefully she does not get suspended and then one more stealth member incoming...

GrannyT 06-24-2011 01:02 PM

Don't see why she should LJ, she's getting rid of some of my GDs clothes and old toys. Actually I was the one who suggested Ebay just to get an off forum perspective on the making of a non stealth account. Lets face it most accounts that are made are by people who will never need this place. We sometimes forget we are a minority on Ebay

You don't see why she should - it's eb or pp that will determine the shot - time will tell ha. I don't intend to sound cynical - I do wish her all the best.

Electoral role?

GrannyT 06-26-2011 05:33 PM

In the UK you meed to be registered to vote and that is a public access document. There is anecdotal evidence that PP & EB in the UK are making use of it and placing limits if you are not on it

You do not have to be registered unless you want to vote

Past the 90 day mark for a new account and still have a limit on selling phones, anyone know if this is normal?

TurtleCove 06-28-2011 07:40 PM

When I went past the 90 days, they increased my limit by 10 more, as well as $200 more....and eb ay has been increasing it now by that amount, every 30 days.

Cashew 06-28-2011 11:50 PM

Hi TurtleCove
Did you have to cal or talk to live chat or anything of that nature or did they automatically raise the limit for you?
Seems like a lot of differnt things happening lately with the limit thingy.

I have 2 accounts coming up on the 90 day mark and both of them only have 10 item limits. I would be ok with them raising them both to the 20 item limit, especially if i didnt have to talk to anyone:pry:

TurtleCove 06-29-2011 12:08 AM

I spoke with nobody. They simply are raising them by 10, every 30 days.
It's an odd account, of mine too.
I thought it was stealth, but I called them 2 months ago, to ask them to raise it, and they told me they would rather not, since they've linked it to another couple of accounts that were suspended! So, I just decided to lay low, shut-up, and leave it alone the way it is. They told me they would rather just "keep an eye on me", and see how selling goes....

Cashew 06-29-2011 12:28 AM

Thanks for the reply
WOW ya got linked to to a couple suspended accounts and they not only left you alone, but they raised the limit. WTFG

From what i have been reading and trying to get a grasp as much as i can on this, Eb ay seems to be changing their attitude on certain things. But then again, just when i think they are being a little bit more tolereant on certain things, BAM, they nail ya for the slightest thing,

I think i'm just gonna have to really take the advise from the pro's and get myself a few more accounts going. It is a pain in the ass for me with this dam hughesnet connection, but i haven't been messed with yet.
I only have about 9 ip's total to choose from. Sucks but it seems to be working for now. Sometimes it takes me 45 minutes of unplugging and plugging back in to get the exact ip i want. I do this because as far as i can see, i only have 9 options for ip's.

I still havent got the iphone figured out yet for connecting to my desktop, but i will. If all else fails, i can always go the dial-up way.
