I bought something on ebay. There were 2 options for shipping: FREE and $12. So I picked FREE without noticing that it was actually pick-up.
I am 1200 miles away and cannot pick up.
I asked seller if item has been shipped or what he plans to do, no response.
please please tell me paypal dispute can be opened for pick-up items?

How long has it been since you sent the seller a message?
Buyers really need to give sellers at least a day to answer questions. I get people who bought something and within minutes they are wanting me to answer questions and wonder why I am not answering. I got 12 messages from one buyer yesterday within minutes of an auction ending wanting to know why I am not answering her. Buyers really think we sit on ebay all day and all night.
If it has been more then a full day then rsot has the answer.
Call them up and tell them you made a mistake and need them to send you a new invoice with shipping.
If the seller is honest and nice this should not be a problem at all.
chose to pick up although I am 1200 miles away!
