Default message after 90 days - weird buyer

Hi Everyone,

Today I got an email from a buyer that I sold something to her approx for about $300 about 90 days ago. I know its not a spoof email because I looked up the paypal transaction and her name is there. She claimed what I sol d to her is not real and want a full refund blah blah or she will take legal action.

At this point, I wanna know what is the worst thing could happen? She said she already contacted ebay about the issue and will later contact her lawyer something like that.

1st of all I didn't sell her anything ⊗⊗⊗⊗
2nd of all if she contacted ebay they'd be contacting me

and lastly, legal action? would cost her more to take legal action then what the item is worth.

Just sounds like a mad buyer making idle threats, what do you think?

Sounds like you worry too much

There's a very small chance of legal action, especially since it would cost more than the item is worth. The worst that can happen is that the buyer will do a chargeback through the credit card provider. Even then, you may be able to fight it with the proof of shipment.

Sounds like threat or scare tactic, is the item legit?

After 90 days eBay can't take no action, although theoretically the person could take it up lawyer, highly doubt that a lawyet would take a case like this on simply because it would cost more than the actual item.

I'm not sure why someone would message you after 3 months... but perhaps theres something your not telling us.

I had someone who contacted Eb abt an item he bought in Aug 2010, last month. First he claimed item not received..... geez, after 1+ year? Then he filed SNAD with PP.
The only action EB/PP did was "Please work with XXXX to resolve matter".
Nothing happened after that.

If she takes it to court she will have to file in the small claims court in the county where you live and then travel to the hearing. Most small claims courts in the US do not award costs so that should deter any action on their part for $300.

IIRC both Visa and Mastercard can only do chargebacks within about 90 days from the time of payment. I don't think chargebacks are possible at all.

i would tell that person what i thought. call their bluff and tell them to hire a lawyer. you will be waiting for the paperwork inn the mail. they wont do anything.

I think most credit card charge back are up to 6 months from the date of purchase.

Can be up to 180 days.

But a smooth talker could get a chargeback made.

Similar to paypal talk the talk & things happen outside of stated guidelines.

Case by case choice

the 180 days for a chargeback is such a vague concept. i cant believe anyone in their right mind would think they have the right to their money back after they have used the item or service for nearly 6 months.

i have to imagine that the 6 month rule is for instances when people find unauthorized charges 5 months later once they got ambitious enough to go thru their statements.

with that being said, get your ducks in a row just in case and let the buyer do what they will and then fight it

yea i'll let the account cool down for a while.

She does seem pretty nutty, came right out of the gate making threats.

I've got no problem refunding money and taking care of customers if something isn't right.. but not 3 months later! sheehs

If the item is really legit, it sounds like they are in a pinch and need some quick cash. People desperate for money will do crazy ****...I know from experience.

Im not sure about ebay buy once amazon refunded to my buyer 14 months after she bought the item... If the item is real you have nothing to worry about just ignore the annoying buyer. If its not real better refund because one report can get you checked and bad stuff might come out

I've actually just decided to work something out.. just a gut feeling I have about it. I like to keep all my stuff squeeky clean and i surely don't want someone waking up everyday feeling like they've got an axe to grind with me, and messing with my other auctions or harrasing this account.
