How is the neW Photo rule going to affect your sales??

With the new rule where borders and text cannot be used in any photos that will really be annoying.

I have to explain visually to people since they do not read EVER. That will in my case make people just want to return things that they didnt read about.

Does this affect anyone else as much?

It was explained to me today that NOTHING can be put in the photo except the Water markings but they will be scrutinized as well.

They said that even something like a white marker board with words on it behind a product will not fly either.

Not sure why this is a issue for ebay at all.

If you have say one item that is 9" tall and one that is 11" tall it seems they wont allow you to put that on the listing photo any more.

I think it will affect my sales. They probably think more people will buy a description since they can't add it in pictures.

GreenBean 03-07-2012 03:18 AM

I have nee idea

KingRay 03-07-2012 06:20 AM

I just think it will eventually lead to more bad transactions.

There are too many people now that buy and dont read the description. SOme people like myself do a lot of caption type text around the object so people can visually understand as well as the text.
Plus more and more are shopping on phones which is too much of a hassle to read it all.
I have asked a lot of folks this and they say they do more shopping by photos now with their phones than reading deep descriptions.

I guess we are going to have to start simplifying descriptions so its more pleasant to the eye on smaller screens.

By the time you have all of the text for shipping, returns, description, etc its going to be a pain to scroll through it all for each listing you want to read.

It's starting July or something, right? Not yet in effect ...

Trendkill83 03-07-2012 08:40 AM

You could always lay a tape measure along side of the item.

Wait and see for me - I do use text in some pictures but I cannot see it being a huge deal - just a pain in the (you know what!)

I can't see this being a problem really, more a benefit for me i think, as it will make it a level playing field in my market area.

MM78 03-07-2012 11:39 AM

I don't think it will be a huge problem, At least they will give up to 12 pictures free I believe. I suppose having more images of your products will help. Time will tell I suppose.

mercurial333 03-07-2012 01:03 PM

I don't even use pictures :)

Except manufacturer stock photo.

Real pictures always work best in my experience. I've gotten my share of MC019 I'm thinking mainly because of using stock pictures. Since then been using nothing but real pics and things are sailing, same items I've gotten the MC019 for mind you.

So I can't write my ebay username next to my product is what you mean?

newjerseymax 03-08-2012 12:49 AM

Some people overdo it and that is what this stems from...

LoopHole 03-08-2012 01:08 AM

And what does eb*y get out of this????? Whats wrong with having text or water markings on your picture????

Those people also sell the most. I do it and it works magic.

KingRay 03-08-2012 01:45 AM

I started doing it just to inform people on exactly what they are getting since half never read the text anymore.

My sales on that account have at least doubled in the last 6 months. Its working for my niche.

The reason they gave me which sounds right is that too many people are going text limitation rules and putting it on the photo so their system wont pick it up.

There are tons of examples of why but since it doesnt matter anyway in june then no reason to. Cant change it.

I still think its dumb. I see people abusing it but for small things I dont see the problem. just hard to police each item separately. they just will ban them all.

I have a problem small things like this for example: Say you are selling a tent but the fabric is better and need to be noted. Say its waterproof and most of the others are not and you want to put a little text with an arrow pointing to it saying " new improved waterproof material" or something similar.

If you have it in the text and your photo looks similar to some others then it will not be noticed and your "better" product might not be seen over the lesser quality items.

Or smart phone shoppers wont see it since most dont bother to look any further than the photo.

Like looking for a home. Most people scan through the photos of houses before they even bother with details.

1st impression is all that matters in sales when it comes to pages of gallery photos that all look the same and might not be in reality.

I can go on for every about this but a waste really. some will see it as good and others wont. The ones that wont probably have never tried it.

We will just have to add another thing to our long long list of crap that we have to dance around to keep from breaking their little rules.

KingRay 03-08-2012 01:54 AM

lol.. Yeah, I kinda get long winded or handed when typing. lol

download3000 03-08-2012 04:13 AM

its crazy i cant seem to understand why ebay wants to implement this.

imjustme 03-08-2012 05:07 AM

You can still "watermark" the photos ..which is putting your account name on them or something like that, to prevent them from being stolen. But you can't put fancy borders or "BEST DEAL" or something like that on them.

GTB 03-08-2012 05:15 AM

so is this just text or any sort of photo shopping

i.e take photo and photo shop the background to all white to make it stand out

it's bit extreme i think ebay, buck your ideas up man:doh:
