I was talking about tablets that runs Windows 8 ARM, not the same one that laptops/desktops would run.

FandangoKango 03-11-2012 09:14 AM

Talk about I make bad topics? Lol this was a no brainer ipad or laptop. C'mon mr!

Windows 8 as I understand it, is a Slimed downed verision of Windows 7 Optimized for tablets and is compatible with All X86, X64, and ARM Based systems

BiN4RY 03-11-2012 11:48 AM

But not in one cohesive package. I'm planning on waiting for a ARM tablet (or maybe even a tablet sporting a upcoming intel mobile processor) that is dedicated to run the mobile version of Windows 8 than one that is actually a full fledge PC tablet.

golden_monkey 03-11-2012 02:23 PM

hhhhaahah tablets are toys.

laptop NO BRAINER, if you plan on spending long hours behind this thing and getting some serious work done i'd even go with a desktop. Nice full size keyboard, big 20 inch LED screen, etc etc etc. It will save you money and last longer via upgrades.

AmazonStealth 03-12-2012 12:43 AM

A mobile device/tablet would never work for me. I purchased a $150 netbook so it was squeaky clean and could not be linked/tracked at all. No issues and have done this on countless accounts for years.

There is a Standard Version and a Business Version the ONLY difference I believe is additional bundeled software with the Business version. Either can be used with X86, X64 or ARM Processors.

Windows 8 Consumer Preview

Not quite. The PC version of Windows 8 have many variations like Windows 7 such as Home basic, Premium, Professional, Ultimate, and etc. There is only one ARM version however, and it's closed source/embedded only. It's kinda like iOS and Android, the OS is shipped on the device. But unlike android you cannot just grab the source code/install disk and install it on the device as the bootloader that Windows 8 ARM prevents you from doing that, and it's closed source as I have previously mentioned.

Buy a desktop, lol.

jbluntz 03-15-2012 12:22 PM

I have a desktop, 2 laptops and 1 ipad, works great..

I've got an Alienware Laptop, and two iPad's (after buying one, I got another thru work). For mobile computing, the iPad rocks. I'd say if there's any way possible, try and do it with the iPad. The mobility and light weight is so sweet. My Alienware is like a tank.

I haven't finished reading all the replies yet, but doesn't the iPad hide cookies or IP addresses from EB better also?

I just don't understand replies like this.
Neither one is "terrible". Cripes....millions sold, and yet they're terrible....

Eggplant is terrible.
Communism is terrible.
A ferret clamped on your finger, is terrible.

But an iPad? Come one....

Haha...Alienware has no place in this comparison. That is a gaming device and an entirely different league design for a totally different purpose.

BiN4RY 03-16-2012 01:26 PM

Alienware computers are terrible. Hideous looking designs, extremely overpriced, and often comes with low quality hardware.

I laugh when people call Alienware laptops 'gaming' computers. They use cheap quality components - and they have alot of issues. They weight more than 10 pounds, defeating the whole purpose of a laptop in the first place.
They don't even look good.......lack design and ingenuity. They have had the same design for the past 10 years. I'm surprised they haven't created a glow in the dark version. ;)

With all the ugly amount of lighting they come with, I think it's already safe to say that they glow in the dark.

Or rather, lights up your room in the dark

Burning 03-16-2012 02:55 PM

Looks like Jblutz deleted his posts. :pound: :fight::boink:

To answer the OP'S question, you should get a laptop. You should take a look at MSI, ASUS, and ACER products. I would stay away from HP laptops - they suffer from overheating issues, but that can easily be solved with due diligence. When ever you buy a laptop, make sure you install software which monitors the temperature of the laptop. Clogged fans from hair and dust are the most common issues - give your laptop a good inner cleaning every now and then. When I buy a laptop I make sure it's easy to open up, in order to clean them.

The problem with the IPAD, IPHONE and other smartphones is the fact that they have a 'built in battery.' Guess what happens when you want to change it? Your going to have to take it apart, just to change a single component.

Wow,,,All the poor Guy (turtlrcove) did was mention that he had an Alienware laptop and some of the guys Burned him up,,,(Tough Crowd),,,,ran him completely off the road,,,,Don't worry man,,I got your back,,,all the poor guy wanted say in essence is,,,

That he has BOTH a Laptop and an Ipad and BOTH do a Good job,,,,Thank you for sharing Turtlecove,,,,and you go ahead and Rock that Alienware Tank you have,,,This is AMERICA,,,,=}-

,,,,,and NO I do NOT have an Alienware,,,,

jamblix 03-16-2012 09:46 PM

I'd get a laptop just for the fact that it's annoying as **** to type on an ipad or any tablet. You're also gonna be doing a myriad of tasks that an ipad is just not suitable for. Laptop and it's not even close.

1st.. eWww on the windows 8 looks horrible
Second
Deff a laptop better yet, a pc for business

I personally, HATE I pads, I gotta Samsung galaxy 10.1 tab which is waaaay better den the I pad 3..
Widgets, personalization, Java Multitasking etc..

I have a HP 600 Touchsmart 600-1050 and a galaxy tab
my girl has a custom Dr Dre beats laptop and a kindle

No I pad for me, they are extremely OVER priced for no reason, there is nothing an I pad can do that my galaxy CANT

unkown5454 03-17-2012 12:47 AM

^^^ You talk as if Samsung's Galaxy line is sub-$200. Many of them cost the same price or more than any iPad...even on a 2-year contract with AT&T and Verizon.

Gman91189 03-17-2012 12:59 AM

Ur right but for 10k what would u get a 97 hunday or a 2012 Mercedes
The galay has alot more features then just apps

BiN4RY 03-17-2012 01:40 AM

Galaxy Tab is horrible to be honest. There are better Android tablets. Asus Transformer Prime is arguably the best

unkown5454 03-17-2012 01:55 AM

Agreed on Asus ^^^.

And even Samsung themselves admitted at MWC in the last 2 weeks that they can't even come close to competing with iPad.

Gman91189 03-17-2012 02:00 AM

Its comes down to preference, I prefer to have Widgets then just apps

jbluntz 03-17-2012 02:17 AM

widgets for the ipad

Something I would never use

unkown5454 03-17-2012 02:35 AM

Good God that implementation of widgets is awful.

jbluntz 03-17-2012 03:00 AM

There's 100's more widget themes then that dude, I could care less though, if I saw a widget on my ipad I'd probably throw it out the window..

newjerseymax 03-17-2012 10:03 AM

At least with the ipad you can turn them into cool turntables at starbucks and have all the chicks look at you while you drink your coffee and look awesome... :boink:

Seriously though I would say iphone and laptop.... The iphone lets you do all those things on the go and laptop can be the heart of the operation. Now if you can afford it then why not add the ipad too... We love the toys don't we?

Shadowmoe7 03-17-2012 11:59 AM

if you want a windows on a table i recommend a hp slate 500 it have a full operating system on it ( windows 7 )

jbluntz 03-17-2012 01:13 PM

I have windows 7 on my ipad but never use it =/

TurtleCove 03-17-2012 02:32 PM

Interesting reading....
When I was shopping for a laptop, my specs were mainly that I wanted the fastest laptop out there, and money was no object. Everyone pointed to the Alienware. Sure, I travel all over the world, and it's as heavy as a tank, but that's why we've got luggage on wheels. I consider it more of a portable desktop. When I need extreme portability, like bouncing around between meetings, that's when the iPad comes in. But, for brute force programming at mind numbing speed, the Alien is perfect.

And, I love all the comments on how ugly it is. Funny how every time I open it, I've got people drooling, and wishing they could afford one.

I use my iPads for everything I can, and it can't be beat when managing my EB accounts during a lazy day in bed. But, reading all this talk about the Galaxy Tab, and Asus Prime....maybe I need to go check those out, and grab one...or both.

Nobody replied to the question tho of whether or not the iPad hides our ID's better from EB though....??

Depends on how you're using it, if you're using the virtual machine or remote desktop for windows then you use it just like you would on your windows computer if not then you can just use the different user apps out there like Switch, not sure what you mean by "hides better" if you've got cookies seperate between users and different ip then that's hidden enough for ebay.
