Default a.c.c.c revokes ebay's attempt to make paypal mandatory in Australia

In a win for us anti ebay folks here in oz - just thought i would share this info

The a.c.c.c has decided to recommend to revoke ebays immunity to implement the paypal only policy .

Ebay applied to have immunity from legal action from going paypal only .
This in effect will stop the proposels going ahead if they do they will be sued.

this means that its most likely going to be knocked on the head and common sense prevails and ebay have to offer bank payments / cc paymate etc etc- can check it out here.

ACCC proposes to revoke immunity for eBay's PayPal only policy

Ebay have right to reply before the decision is final but the writing is on the wall so to speak i got a personal reply from the accc as I put in a complaint and their report rips into them in many areas .

so very happy days and a big up yours to ebay /paypa for being so arrogant thinking they could get this through without being stopped by common sense

This slightly restores my faith in the a.c.c.c

Exclamation Not Definite Yet

This decision is not in concrete yet. Much as I hope that it happens, I am going
to WAIT. I do not trust ebay/paypal. I got notice from the ACCC as well, but I am not convinced yet.

**ACCC Australian Competition & Consumer Commission It's a national authority to administer The Fair Trade Act & other acts. Its aim is to promote
acceptable competition for consumers, business and the community....amongst
other work.

its not concrete no but withthe general consensus from all parties involved - (except for paypal ebayof course )is that it quite clearly is anti competitive behaviour and unless paypal and ebay can come up with new arguments then it will stand-their case is weak at best for their reasoning and anyone who has an ounce of commonsense knows it is not right what they are doing so fingers crossed that it pans out - my biggest worry is how long can they draw this out with appeals and the like.

I think as a result of this Ebay should retaliate against all the sellers on their australian site.

Default they probably will

They probably will but you know what mucks them up is that they are horrible- its only a matter of time before they have competition and when that happens watch them sink while all people jump ship to the better quality more integral structured boat-

Im still gloating about this days later.

Looks to be a blow for eBay if they attempt to implement this in the US or other countries.
