Ebay's new policy: Don't add item's color in title?
Strange thing happened today, ebay took off one of my listings. Why? Because I put the color of the item in the title. Does ebay’s new policy restrict you from adding the color of your item in your title now? Well, here’s the details:
I was advertising a Fender Vintage Modified Jaguar HH, Fiesta Red. They sent an email saying they took it down because of “Search and Browse Manipulation”. This is a quote from their email: “Please be advised that by placing the brand name Fiesta Red, buyers who are looking for this item are also drawn to you listing.”…
I spent 1 hour on the phone talking with 3 different people (from India), and they still said that their listing department said that “Fiesta Red” is a brand name and not only a color. Even after I explained that Fender has been using that official color since the 50’s. (color code #40)
So, this begs the question, if I create a brand name “Blue”, and register it with ebay, then will I have a search monopoly on all the searches for “blue” on ebay? Sounds kind of silly, but putting the color of an electric guitar in the title is very important, so, I ended the call by asking if they could at least investigate the company who claims to have made a brand name “Fiesta Red”, because maybe they are trying to manipulate the searches. Well, Leo on the phone didn’t really want to pursue it, so that’s that.
So is this going to be the next policy that we see? “Ebay’s new policy is that you can’t add certain colors to your item listing’s title.”
Let me know what you think.
