Default I spoke with ebay about the new 10 item/$500 policy. Here is what they told me...

Ok, so ebays new rule for the month is...

You can list and sell up to 10 items or a total of $500, which ever comes first.

Not only that, you can no longer create an account an let it sit. The seasoning of you account does not start until you make your first sale.

After waiting on the phone for an hour, I finally got a rep and I really played dumb and picked her brain and now I am bring this information to home base.

To make this info as clear and easy to read as possible, I will type it in Q&A format.

Me) How long will my account be limited to 10 items or $500?

Ebay) We will review you account at the end of 30 days and if you do "good", we will raise you listing limit.

Me) how much?

Ebay) It depends.

Me) what does it depend on?

ebay) how well you do. (I am shaking my head at this point)

me) Is there a max out point for sellers as far as how many sold listing I can have in a month?

ebay) yes... 100. But if you do "good" you can open an ebay store and sell more than 100.

To make a long story short, consider you first 60 to 90 days selling on ebay as a trial period.

The first 30 days just focuse on cheap items and feedback.

The next 30 days focus on feedback and intergrating items that will make you some profit.

Last 30 days, keep feedback up and list more profiatble items!

I spoke with this rep for a while, played dumb and asked the same questions in different ways and she gave the same answer each time.

My guess is that ebay figures that we will not have the patience do deal with this new rule but boy are they wrong. Yes it does slow s down, but we are not out!

What you will need to do is, start listing asap because that is when they start considering you account a "real" sellers account and that is when the clock really starts ticking.

Here is what I am planing to do...

1) I will open multiple stealth accounts so that I will never have this problem again.

2) I will us my ten listing for the first 30 days, I will not be looking to make money. I am basically going to give away my products with free shipping. Why, because all I care about at this point is getting 5 star feedback from my customers and building my credibility with eBay.

3) Assuming eBay lifts my limits after 30 days to lets say, 20 items, I will now beging to implement selling some of my more proitable items along with my BS items. My BS items are meant to do one thing, produce more positve feedback for me.

4) After 60 days you should have some good feedback and eBays trust, this is when you want to open an ebay store. Why? Because it will allow you to list and sell more items. They lady from ebay told me that once you open an ebay store, you will be able to do more business as opposed to a regular sellers account.

Sorry about the super long post, I am just so happy to be here, sharing with like minded people. Feels great!

Default re: your post

nice post, sharing your info helps us a lot, cheers to that!

Here an idea for building feedback without loosing money:
Im going to start 10 new accounts and implement a few of the ideas you have given and build my feedback. I just bought a Lot of 600 Pentium 4 computer processors which is a nice lot to resell each 1 by 1 and pretty much break even or make a couple dollars with free first class USPS shipping while building feedback at the same time. Just about any lot on eBay will do, if you resell each individual unit you will break even or make a small profit with a new eBay account.

I agree with everything except for the limits increased after 30 days. It depends on the categories you sell in. If you sell clothing, they will let you list 10 items even the 2nd or 3rd month. If you sell sewing material, for example, they will let you list more.

Cell phones just like all electronics are all dangerous - considered high-risk unless you are VERY established and even then - rough.

Great post, beware of selling electronics...Yall should sell some ebooks or REAL books to get those sales. Cheap, easy, sometimes make a few bucks.

Even worse, it's actually "from the date of your first successful sale". What they mean by that, I don't know. Possibly when the first item is sold, or when the first sold item is paid.

Excellent Post,,I am VERY happy to See a New Member Here CONTRIBUTING as well as Learning,,That is what this is all about,,,

To add,,and also agree with my Fellow Executive Members above,,,

What the ebay Rep told you is Accurate but incomplete,,,as Mentioned above,,,The Catagories and Specific items that you sell are KEY,,,,Its not just Clothing,,,The Higher the Risk Ebay/Paypal see in your activity the slower they will be to raise your Limits,,,

Believe me,,,as Pointed out above,,If you are selling Sewing Supplies like thread,,, your selling limit will move A LOT Faster and SMOOTHER,,than an account selling DVD Boxsets,,,Gauranteed!!!

However, if you take a quantum leap to high risk items, after selling the sewing material, they will not allow too much of their being sold. It still comes down to seller credibility.

I will start with some cheap cell phone charges and screen protectors and them move on to some smaller cheaper cell phones, that way I am in the same "genre" of products.

Thanks to all for the advice.

eBay will get you for feedback manipulation. It's best to start out with items over $5.

Not really,,,It only proves what we Know to be true here on the Forum,,,

What you are selling is MORE Important in Ebay/Paypals Eyes than the Amount of Money involved in the transaction in MANY Cases,,,,

Think about those items,,,,,Cars,,Motorhomes,,,Boats,,ect,,ect,,

Those are the type of items that are Normally Picked Up,,Paid for On the Spot,,,,Buyer to Seller,,,VERY Unlikley that those Items are Stolen or Counterfeit,,,,

Ebay/Paypal sees items like that as MUCH LESS Of a Risk than a Cell phone or iPod or DVD Boxset,,,,
