Today I heard something call video verification. It's like EB asks you to use a webcam to record your picture and have account and ID verification. Has anyone heard about this?

Guys, no kidding. As a matter of fact, today when I tried to request selling limit by clicking the link. It went to a video verification. I didn't continue as I don't have a webcam to do and I wouldn't want to do it. Anyone hear anything like that and any trick to get rid of it?

What would they compare the photo to?

some of the freelancer site already has this feature , they ask you to verify yourselves on skype :) this is a possiblity .

Maybe they will ask you to scan your ID/passport and then ask to see you over video as well to make sure the guy on the ID is really you.

A great way to scare away new eBayers, too. eBay is self destructing, I love it!

I did some search on Google. They should have started doing this to eb China in the beginning of 2012. People saying they are required to take pictures, do some postings in the video verification. After that, they may be required to send photo ID and other document to get it pass. I'm in eb HongKong. I saw this video verification in one of my account in early Dec. I thought they needed this for the peak season selling limit request only. However, I went back yesterday and it's still there.

Surely there must be a way around it. eBay can't expect you to buy a webcam just to verify the account. Or do they send one free?

PP likes to go around some things when they can - they feel they can do these things because of their size and net influence.

I used that argument on the Freelancer sites but they still insisted on it and told me that it would be grounds for banning me and returning the payment to the client... pretty retarded that they think everybody would have one to verify with.

So this is only happening to you guys when you ask for a selling limit increase? Or at other times too?

This is scary stuff. I think if eBay implements this they'll lose a lot of money.

This might be a test ,so they are just doing it on sellers who ask for higher seller limit
Ebay can lose lotsa fee but also by doing so they will prevent many scams

I think they may be a glut of accounts getting verified over the coming weeks if this is coming in. Eiher that or all future account will be one person in disguise!

I searched Google too but could find nothing. Not a single article. I also tested the limits increase button on one of my Hong Kong accounts and I get no video verification link, only one for Live Chat.

Would be nice if you could post the link to an article or post an actual screenshot. Obviously edit out your account name when posting it.

I have been asked for that video verification for my account with HK ebay with my address in China. This is supposed to be mandatory to raise my selling limit. I'm wondering if this is required for all new accounts in China. Any body know? I wouldn't think so but thats what I was told on the live chat.

Yes, I heard the video verification happened for HK eBay account, just take a 5 second video, your limit will increase in couple days
