eBay fee is calculated on the total included ship fee?

As you see i'm still a noob.
Ebay calculate fees on the total included ship fee or not calculate the fee for the ship also?

bruceuk 01-20-2013 10:22 AM

Ebay fees are not calculated with the shipping fee included .
Its calculated on the goods sale price only.
Unless of course if you use free shipping in your listings then you are paying a fee on this.

eBay.com fees are calculated on the total transaction amount. Goods + shipping = total transaction amount

They used to be on goods only, but people where selling X for $1.00 + $100.00 shipping and paying fees on the $1.00. Now they pay fees on the $101.00

I use this Calculator, it's not perfect but it gives you a pretty close view of your fees, profits.

Use at own risk.

Good Luck!

I didnt know that ..
Thats shocking.
So you have to pay commision on a delivery service .. whatever next.

rsot 01-20-2013 11:41 AM

Exactly - very shocking - when they started doing that (late 2010 I believe), lot of people were in uproar.

Another nuisance - and a big one - is that they charge a fee when you refund a buyer (pp)....figure that one out.

Its ebay, they want a piece of all the action.

So yes, they are making money on your shipping.

NoneOther 01-20-2013 01:34 PM

but they don't want you the seller to make any money off the shipping costs

Makes for an even bigger joke of the DSR system
When you are rated on your postage and packing charges but those bas*ards are taking a cut of it ...

NoneOther 01-20-2013 04:43 PM

You couldn't make it up :heh:

Futuremogul888 01-20-2013 05:30 PM

I actually don't blame ebay for this. Lot of people were getting away with selling items for $1 and a shipping costs of like $350 therefore shifting the actual value of the item on the shipping cost to circumvent fees. Even more people were at least profiting somewhat on the shipping. To this day you still see a lot of people clearly getting their profits from the shipping cost.

NoneOther 01-20-2013 05:40 PM

Sorry, but it is wrong for them to set a max limit on the amount you can charge a customer for shipping an item that does not cover the actual cost and then take a 'commission' from that amount.

Futuremogul888 01-20-2013 05:44 PM

It is an unfortunate case of lots of unethical sellers ruining it for the good ones.

NoneOther 01-20-2013 05:51 PM

As is the way of e/b

But e/b are still their own worst enemy and ours unfortunately

newjerseymax 01-20-2013 06:19 PM

There are always ways to recover those fees. Just need to not overdo it and make it super obvious.... If it is a buy it now, then I offer free shipping where total price of item would cover all costs and get enough profit. Otherwise its not worth selling....

Extinguisher 01-21-2013 08:48 AM

Yes, I don't have much experience, but I think they calculate all that. I always offer Free shipping, so it hasn't occured to me.
