ebay question???!

Just wanted some info.
Ran across an ebay drop off store that has been in business for ten years. Asked them some questions about dumping my Items off for them to sell of course they get commission. But was told there is a paypal hold on funds for a certain amount of days I believe they said 21.

Now I know it is 21 for new sellers and if they are on ebay for over ten years why would they have a hold on funds?? Are they just saying that in case of customers complaints or sending items back? Should not be a problem if hey are still selling for ten years.

Any thoughts on this.I may just open up an ebay account and sell myself. The only thing I am weary about is losing my stuff as a new seller on ebay to scammers. Are there less scammers on ebay than amazon these days??

They may well have 21 days holds. Anyone can get them at any time.

Its more likely that they are just covering their backs though.

eBay get a fair number of scammers, but there are simply methods to deter most scammers

Detailed pictures and description, only ship to confirmed PayPal addresses (and states this on your listing), get a signature on delivery. Again, state that this is done in your listing. Most scammer will stay away

Sounds strange.

Does happen that 21 day holds can be applied. Would be rare for older accounts.

Did they offer serivces as a trading assistant?

I guess I would be better off to start my own ebay and list like 3 items to see how it goes. Since I would have to wait for cash anyway if I used their service..

Just make sure the items you have aren't super high risk! Make sure your using stealth as well! Plus if you do it yourself you'll make more profit! Best of luck!

Maybe they've had problems and now have to list with stealth accounts, and have 21 day holds. I can't possibly think of any reason an ebay consignment shop would have 21 day holds, that's very strange.

Lol, I didn't even know these eBay consignment stores existed anymore.

Avoid those stores at all cost. I read the reviews on those type of stores out of curiously after I had a purchasing transaction go wrong with them. I read the reviews on that location and they were terrible. Next thing I know, I had read the reviews on the ISoldIt locations from all over the country. There was an abnormally high percentage of them with 1 or 2 star total ratings with the bad reviews being very consistant and believable. When I see an almost unanimous vote of scam, I tend to believe they are largely a scam.

But the content of the reviews was the most incriminating part. There was a consistent stream of reviews saying that the found that the stores had sold the item for more then they claimed. Lots of people saying that they never got paid at all after confirming the item sold.

Agree with Futuremogul...Personally if I don't have the time to sell my items...why bother selling at all, unless you hire someone you trust but that's another story.

I hate to start on the back in the day thing. But with FVF fees at 9-10% on most items and PayPals fees relatively constant at 2-3%. I can't fathom how these type of stores can still be in business when back in 03-06 my rough estimation you would see these around. FVF topped out at like 5% (no fees on shipping, no DSR's) and the subsidized companies like Auctiva so it was free for sellers. Double the FVF and then try to charge a commission on top of that. Sounds like you would be getting about 1/2 of the the total selling price.

@OP, there are scammers on every platform - eB is just more plentiful because of the penetration of eB and ease of use. Amazon tends to attract a different class of buyers but as time goes on, could attract more `professional buyers`. Just have to make use of all protection in place.
