Default letting an account idle was a bad idea I guess

I have 2 ebay accounts, the one I use now and the one I have had since 2000 the one from 2000 has 299 postivie feedback on it, I use it at least a couple times a year to buy something with to make sure it stays active. i used to use it as my primary selling account also but havent sold on it in about a year and a half now. At any rate my mom recently lost her job so I offered to let her try her hand with ebay, she wasnt sure she could do it since she's not too computer literate so I told her she could use my other account and try it for a few weeks and if she thought she could do it then we'd set her up with her own account and paypal. We listed her first item and discovered that the account has been hit with a selling limit of 12 items per month or $500 per month!
I'm kinda suprised, given the accounts age and that its in good standing I wasn't expecting it to be limited, this was always going to be my backup account if something happened to my powerseller account. I'm glad I discovered the limits before I needed to use it for myself. So I guess ebay is imposing limits when no selling activity occurs for a while even on aged accounts. I certainly didnt expect a 13 yo account to be hit with limits, and not ones this low. Anyone know what the time frame is for ebay to reinstate limits? Hopefully they will be increased again soon but Im gonna have to make sure not to let it lapse back to being limited in the future.

Only time will tell - sadly. You need to list slowly and hit the max limits every month...lot of people have had recent increases in as little as 30 days on eb.com....some in 90 days eb.com

An old INACTIVE account will be treated like a new one regardless of when it was setup...that's the way eB works

Browsing, bidding, listing low end items will all help keep the account active, healthy, and viable

Yes letting one sit will cost you. You must keep any and all accounts active in some manner.

I have made the same mistake and for some reason I was ever able to made the account active again since. I was suspended, sent id and stuff then one week later suspended before. When I queried it they asked me to call... needles to say I am no longer selling on that account. Waiting on my 6 months to get the money in the PP account and then I am done with that one. Smarter next time. Nothing teaches you like experience :-)

A new curve ball but one that is easily fixed.

List something at a ridiculously high price for the 'til canceled' option will help to keep an account active if you have many and just have downtime.

Good post.

About 5$ a year. Not bad.

listing a non branded/low risk item with no BIN as your first item has always worked fine for me on aged accounts.

I also just have avoided BIN for the first sale - just a habit really
