List if a collectibles catagory, with something old...an ashtray with some business advertised on it, one of those stupid souvenir spoons, an old cigarette lighter with advertising on it. etc, etc.

What?
Are you saying to list or not list?
Named collectibles get MC999 with ebay these days.

Honestly, no category is free from "vero" - it's all about how identifiable your sales item is...and how rough the competition is too. Competition can have your auction pulled too
(Just general concepts - lots of postings on good things to sell can be found on this site)

Well. I don't know what you're calling a named collectible? But all I list is stuff like what I named and I haven't had MC999 one...so I disagree with you 100% on your statement Greenbean....I have everyday experience with this stuff. I'm talking about old...NOT new....this is stuff just like your buddy says....yard sale stuff.

Yup, maybe not "collectables". But kinda oddball items. Things that aren't phaked overseas. I have started accounts selling tail lights from old hondas, old garage door remotes. There are all kindas of oddball things. Usually not the first thing I would sell on an new account. But I like throw old used pairs of jeans on there. Always include lots of detailed pictured on all my items as well as measurements on anything necessary.
Part of what you have to do is convince eBay that you are a newbie and you are not some kind of shyster. Never use stock photos or only one photo etc. The more info you give the better on items when starting new accounts. Maybe say where you bought it. Why your are selling it etc.
As much as possible make it look like you are some random person just trying to get rid of a few things from around the house for a couple of bucks.
