Offer price higher than Buy It Now. WTF?

I opened a new Ebay account a few weeks ago and I just listed a laptop for sale about 4 days ago. I have 2 offers that are $75 higher than the BIN price. The first one had zero feedback. Unfortunately I had it set up to accept the offer automatically. Anyway I thought something was fishy so I canceled the order and messaged Ebay and told them why I canceled it.

I changed my settings not to automatically accept offers. Anyway, today I got another offer about the same amount over the BIN form a buyer with 4 feedbacks. He texted me and I asked him why he would bid more and he said he was really interested and money was not an issue. What the heck is going on here? What do these people do to scam? Do they claim they got a box of rocks? I was thinking of accepting the offer and taking a video of me packing it and taping the label on the box and handing it to the postal employee. Does Ebay automatically rule in the favor of the buyer if they said they got a box of rocks? Some insight please.

Video no longer has any use with claims.

ebay has disregarded them previously. Think about it.

Yes, no matter what the buyer will keep the money and product.

I think the rule of thumb is not to be greedy and follow your heart.

So what if it's $100 more... sell it at the peace of mind state. If it's too good to be true, it usually is.

Well good grief. So anyone can buy something expensive on Ebay and just say they got a box of rocks and get a refund and keep the item? They will rule with the buyer everytime if they had no other claims like that?

You use to be able to specify a certain amount of feedback for someone to buy, but now I see Ebay will only let you block negative feedback buyers.

Yes...apparantly so. It kind of puts you off selling doesnt it.
We can only hope that those type of people are the minority and not the majority :-)

I don't know. I think I blocked international selling. Of course they can use the mail forwarding address that is in the US

If Your sales are not affected and I guess it depends on what you sell but limiting who you sell too makes it much harder for scammers

I just sell to the 48 States and block everything out including PO BOX , and in almost 3 years I never had an issue with a scammer

On my original account I was clueless and sold to everyone, and many international buyers were outbidding everyone , 40% of my buyers were from the Russian federation , I thought things were great all auctions would end almost retail price

And a month later 75% of my international buyers all opened item not received cases

I learned the hard way but it was the last time I was ever scammed

Russia, Africa(excluding South Africa), Belarus, Indonesia are all hard places with Russia being the hardest. There is a very real chance those issues were nopt buyer issues but Customs issues. Somewhat started in 2011 with Russia.

I won't sell outside the US, I don't care what kind of profits I can make.....flat out will not do it. I've had some high priced items for sale, and like clockwork I get 2-3 people outside the US wanting to buy it, I flat out tell them NO! or if they want they can have a family member buy it in the US and then ship it to them.

I stay away from Electronics also, some say they make a killing.....I flat out won't sell electronics....too many scammers.

I stopped selling to Rest Of World. Too many items seem to take too long to arrive. I've had random items take a month to arrive when it should have taken a week. Customs like you suggest?
It would also always stress me out worrying that the buyer would want to send it back and the cost that would entail.
Luckily the sales overseas were a drop in thee ocean so it won't hurt my business.
Russia seemed to equal fussy buyers and Italy INR.

Normally the scam is either they send you a ⊗⊗⊗⊗ Western Union money order.... OR... they tell you they will wire the overage amount and then ask you to Western union back the difference... they then get your money and keep the item for free.... I have dealt with these scammers before...

Go over your selling preferences STAT.

Know what you can, and know what you can not allow to purchase.

No room for vagueness any longer with ebay.

Aim to keep you DSRs good at all times.

Lol South Africa had a postal strike last July and My aunt is still waiting for a parcel from Customs since August/September that she imported.

Nope, my forwarding address in the USA doesn't have a box number.

But its not like i will ever bother returning items to the USA, most of the time the postage there costs more than the items lol

Scammers with stolen credit cards like to use a PO BOX to have there items shipped to, so it just puts up more detergents , your never going to weed out every scammer, but if you set all your shipping exclusions and buyer requirements to the highest level than you will cut out a huge percentage of Scammers

And like I said by setting all the requirements very high I wiped out all scammers since I went stealth, never a chargeback nothing

And of course the type of item sold is a big factor, so every account won't have same results, but when I first started I sold to everyone I didn't even know about the settings and a huge percentage of my sales were fraudulent , so I wiped all that out

Sad but unfortunately true the bad apple ruins it for the whole bunch, poor good people in those countries cant get crap can you imagine wanting an iphone living in some of those places.
