Collection question

Hi
Have sold two items on my stealth account and buyer wants to.collect. Totally impossible as im hundreds of miles.away.
Any ideas of what i could reply with to give a reason why i cannot allow that.
Thank you for any help on this one :-)

Re: Collection question

I dont allow collections for security reasons :)
since ANYTHING can happen and they dont know how old you are ;)

Re: Collection question

One I use a lot is saying that I am staying with family for the next 2 weeks in 'insert actual location' and its not possible to collect.

Once told someone wanting to collect an item in person that although my stealth location appeared to be in Kent, so a relatively a short distance from the buyer, the item was being sold by me for a friend who lived up North and the item was still in his possession, was quite a heavy item as well so I ended up sending it via My Hermes.

Re: Collection question

Security reasons sound reasonable... and really, nowadays, it is better do to business via post office and not meet anybody ;)

Bunneh 01-23-2015 04:51 PM

Re: Collection question

Also with collection you do not get proof of delivery and i guess no seller protection.

One of the biggest reasons...NOT to do collection.

Re: Collection question

If someone wants to pay via PayPal and then collect it always screams scammer to me.

BigCJ 01-23-2015 05:17 PM

Re: Collection question

Had that one time.

Never selected the 'pick up' option but buyer insisted on doing so and tried to push me with paypal for payment. This was for a PS3 console mind you.

I told them that even though im new to ebay, this isnt safe and im not protected.

Buyer said that we are 'right around the corner from each other'

I canceled his bid and blocked

Checked his feedback and he had a history of doing chargebacks for large priced items in the form of 'buyer stole my money through pp'

Re: Collection question

She seems a.nice lady but of course you can never tell.

Its two jumpers she has won. Ive really had a couple of.challenging cases lately and dont want to annoy her, hence leave me bad feedback.

So shall i.just say that for security reasons, i cannot allow this?
thank you

That thought crossed my mind but id be flummoxed if she said that she would be happy to wait that long.
She wants to collect and pay cash to save on postage :-)

Re: Collection question

I've gotten alot of sales in my own city which is big and never had a issue with buyers.

If they ask I simply tell them I need proof of delivery and have to ship it even if they live 15 minutes away. I personally wouldn't mind doing local pick ups on occasion BUT they can then easily open a case and win it because I wouldn't have "proof" without valid tracking.

So in otherwords just tell them for your protection you would need to ship it.

Think of it like buying from a website strictly online only (no brick motor store)...

You can't do a "local pickup" if you live in the same city as them can you?

They'd probably think your crazy for asking....haha

Thank you

Re: Collection question

What about trying to find an agreement since you prefer shipping and she does want to save money... offering a discount on postage?

This is a good reason to cancel the transaction just advise that those are your terms Also note that she should have contacted you in regards before the purchase was made word this nicely and proceed with a refund and transaction cancellation

What reason do i give for cancellation. Havent done one for a while. Is there one that says something like buyer changed their mind?
thanks again

Re: Collection question

In ebay under the drop down list when cancelling ,there should be a option that states buyer did not agree to terms or wish to ship to different address dont quote me on that but something to that effect is there .

Yes exactly!

Its not going to count as a defect either because its not your fault the cancellation is occuring.

My assumption is you didn't list nor promote local pick up right? Just in case the buyer is crazy and wants to cause issues with eBay.

Thats strange the buyer doesn't want it anymore if they can't do local pickup? Are you offering free shipping? That might save the sale if you can...

Again your account WON'T be affected in anyway because of the cancellation. No defects, nothing....

Solefoodbk....THANK YOU

i tried one last ditch attempt to meet her in the middle and said i would.ship for free. She is delighted. The shipping is only going to cost £3.00 tracked with courier.
Plus...she has already left feedback for both items. She apolgised if she appeared rude but she understood my reasoning.
I went with rosie tosies suggestion in the end.

HAPPY DAYS :-)

So glad this was easily resolved for you, as this usually is NEVER the case haha..

£3.00 is worth it for a few positive ratings, even if free postage was her plan all along lol..

She might even be related to that last buyer you had who was giving you grief about your postage and wanting you to give her someone elses bid as well.

Im so glad that soulfood mentioned it. He is right, a postage loss is nothing against cancellibg the whole sale...all for 3 quid.

Lol....yes you never know. Ive had my fair share of finnicky buyers of late.
Did see id updated post bunneh. She left great feedback for all three items.
But she is blocked now that one. Did that as soon as she paid :-)

Well done for not reading the thread. This not advice wanted by 'halo.

OP clearly stated the items are several hundred miles away.

'halo does not want contact with the buyer.

Anything to boost the psot count with advice not remotely germaine to the topic.

Re: Collection question

Problem with security reasons when we are talking about 2 second hand jumpers is it sounds quite lame.

Most REASONABLE people will ask prior to bidding if they can collect.

With the UNREASONABLE people I have my own UNREASONABLE methods of dealing with them.

Thats a very unprofessional way of looking at it imho.

:attention:

The world is filled with "unreasonable people"... you won't get very far if you treat them the same way they treat you.

Perhaps.

Explain please how it's professional to misrepresent the location of items (Of which I am guilty of doing myself)

Re: Collection question

The thought about two jumpers with a security issue would sound a bit weird lol

But i wouldnt want to be unreasonable back. I wanted this sale to be a good one with no problems and solved in a way that would please us both.

Glad i got my issue sorted with the free postage suggestion.
Thanks soulfoodbk :-)

Got me out of another scrape so im happy :-)
