| solefoodbk | 01-28-2015 06:15 PM | Selling $1000+ item on eBay Hi everyone.
So I happened to find these pair of sneakers at this local salvation army store....did some research they are worth at least 1000 but possibly 2-4K?
I have no idea because they aren't listed on ebay (they are that rare). I plan on setting the price super high with "best offer" to test the waters out ....
The problem is...
How do I sell them or can I even?
I actually started this worried about the buyer, but didn't think about Paypal
I have NO paypal accounts ever recieving this type of money, ever. The highest sale is probably 300 bucks. I don't like doing any sales above a certain amount but....if they're worth what they're worth I obviously will try to get max value.
Any suggestions?
:help:
What a buzz kill to have such a valuable item that I might not be able to even sell because its worth so much. |
ebayfail | 01-28-2015 06:18 PM | Re: Selling $1000+ item on eBay First you must acquire a Paypal account then break it in to the point where Paypal get use to it so you can make large transactions. |
RosieTosie | 01-28-2015 06:19 PM | Re: Selling $1000+ item on eBay Jeez! What sort of trainers are they to be worth that sort of money, can't you post a pic on here, I'm dying to see them after your build up to them here!! |
JamesNorth101 | 01-28-2015 06:23 PM | Re: Selling $1000+ item on eBay Cash on collection if they are that valuable?
Watch out for the VERO takedown if this is branded. Are you 10000% sure they are the real mccoy? |
solefoodbk | 01-28-2015 06:25 PM | Re: Selling $1000+ item on eBay Well I have plenty accounts but none super aged nor recieving this type of money. I dont sell items that constantly would see this or close to this type of value either.
I'd do that but then you'd know my stealth account lol.
These really could be even possibly worth 5k-10k. Its partly the age of the shoes and partly the colorway. I picked them up out of my way of the store for 8 bucks.
I really had no idea they were worth this type of money. But the fact they are makes me want to obviously get the max value.... |
GreenBean | 01-28-2015 06:27 PM | Re: Selling $1000+ item on eBay You made a thread on this ages ago.
Yet you did no prep for this happening?

Its defiantly branded...
I've NEVER listed a item for this amount ever.
Say I list it 5,500k best offer, wouln't that raise a HUGE flag with ebays bots?
:attention:
Isn't cash on collection kinda scary with that amount of money?
Its a thought though. |

:croc: | I never knew that?
I mean there should be more risk of selling a item for 2k+ than buying something 2k+, at least I would think.
Only reason I say that is selling & fraud compared to buying and well... paypal can't lose anything GENERALLY speaking.
Apparently I'm wrong? |
bananaappeal | 01-28-2015 06:35 PM | Re: Selling $1000+ item on eBay I recently experienced being hit with a account limitation on a verified paypal account (which was nearing 5 months old) in regards to a very large sale compared to previous.
All documents were required , even more so than usual.
This little experience has shown me that PayPal Aus do react to transaction sizes and changes.
Just my two cents on this. |

Take precautions and there should be no issues. |
realdeals | 01-28-2015 06:37 PM | Re: Selling $1000+ item on eBay If they are really this valuable then wouldn't it be better to sell at a b&m sporting goods / memrobillia specialist auction? make sure they accept real time internet bids....
Leaves you risk free if the real deal ;) |
BigCJ | 01-28-2015 06:59 PM | Re: Selling $1000+ item on eBay Keep them off ebay
TOO much risk involved with this....
IF you MUST use ebay as a venue. Tell the winning bidder that its CASH ON PICKUP ONLY and do not even offer paypal as a payment (REFUND ASAP if they insist on it)
Meet at a store that can be populated AND verify INFRONT of the client |

Meet at a store that can be populated AND verify INFRONT of the client | Wise words BigCJ and as clear a way to safeguard this transaction as its probably possible to do |

Meet at a store that can be populated AND verify INFRONT of the client | Have you or anybody done this before?
How would I put that in the listing without getting ebay pissed off?
I'm totally in a new terrority here, never done this before. I realize this little room for error here. |
wtfebay | 01-28-2015 09:26 PM | Re: Selling $1000+ item on eBay Paypal may place 21 day hold on the transaction if you've never had big money deals go through before. Nothing you've never experienced before. Obviously ship with DIRECT signature confirmation. Will Paypal shut you down? Doubt it. |
BigCJ | 01-28-2015 09:29 PM | Re: Selling $1000+ item on eBay Yes I have.
With an item around $300
I meet up in a WELL POPULATED and well lit area with a friend or family member and made sure that I counted money in front of them.
Cover all exits and escape routes just in case they get to jumpy
Another point is to see if you can go somewhere that the item relates too
IE: Jewelry store for gold necklace or electronic store for a MP3 or something like that.
Always KEEP CONTROL OF THE SALE and DO NOT let the buyer dictate your actions,
For 1k, its obviously something they want so they are more flexible. you shouldn't be at any point or costs. Its not a haggle its a straight sale. Any wavering and you just walk away.
If at any point you feel uneasy in the transaction LISTEN TO YOUR GUT.
Also, never walk or go straight home with the cash. Some nut may try to follow you. Walk around and deposit the cash at your local bank or something. Go eat, go bowling. Protect yourself. |
sdot10 | 01-28-2015 09:35 PM | Re: Selling $1000+ item on eBay First off I have you gotten them checked to make sure they are real? They have shoe expos all over with shoe collectors who would probably pay more than what youd get from ebay. I would look into that before doing ebay. Id even say craigslist |

Dmshark25 | 01-28-2015 10:04 PM | Re: Selling $1000+ item on eBay You might need to get these appraised with documentation if someone is going to pay 5-$8000 |
bjammin | 01-28-2015 10:27 PM | Re: Selling $1000+ item on eBay If you sell this item for anything close to 5k, even if it gets bidded up that high, your paypal will be limited 2 minutes after you receive the funds. This is if you do not have a paypal account accustomed to accepting this much money.
I tried this with an item that was 5400. The account was aged and have about 30 positive FB. As soon as buyer paid, here came the paypal limited email. They were not taking chances that they would be out of pocket to reimburse the buyer, so they was making sure that I was legit before I got my hands on the money.
You better use a real account or a very well established account. |
yankee | 01-28-2015 10:27 PM | Re: Selling $1000+ item on eBay I sell higher dollar items everyday on ebay but nothing risky top ebay/paypal eyes and almost never over 2k. |
littleredengine07 | 01-29-2015 10:16 AM | Re: Selling $1000+ item on eBay I would be careful of the cheaters and haters of realm of buyers. A lot of bait and switches go on eBay. The marketplace has become dangerous for high valued items. I would see if you can sell them at an auction house instead of on eBay. Lets say you do sell them and get limit on it. The feebay and asspal decides to hold your funds for the next 6 months.
Even freaken craigslist is better deal or trade them for BTC at bitcointalk.org by putting an AD up.
At most I would go on ebay is 1 iPhone that not valued over 500$. I am really nervous when I list anything over 300$. Always a chance eBay will screw with you due to it being high value item. |

They will get the shoes and claim a shoelace is missing and want a full refund and send u a pair of old sneakers back in return.
Thing I learned about ebay is u NEVER sell nothing of high VALUE or that u cant afford to lose. |
applebaum | 01-29-2015 04:23 PM | Re: Selling $1000+ item on eBay There is a post on here somewhere about the drawbacks on 'local pickup only'. I would research it before trying this option. There are also several threads about people listing high-priced collectors items such as your shows and the buyer ripping them off, stating that they are knock-offs or not the same as in the photo and submitting a claim to ebay to keep the product and receive a refund.
I would try a high-end consignment store or a shoe expo to be safe. |

Ebay and local pickup is great for many things. Cars, ATVs, BIG items that people ship freight/carrier or drive over and pick up. But cash. Not paypal as a seller. |
dbcreator11 | 01-29-2015 04:59 PM | Re: Selling $1000+ item on eBay who in the hell would use paypal for local pickup lol that's just crazy and silly. extra fees for nothing and risk of begin scammed. |

I totally agree , I have products I sell on eBay that the cost is cheap , a lot of $10 items that bring $40 Profit
The most expensive cost item that I usually sell is $130 and sells around $280 range
So I'm able to lose items and not take a hit because the profit margins are very high, I also set all buyer requirements as high as possible and just ship in the continental US all Priority mail
And I never have scammers anyway by limiting my buyers |
jakobrockz | 01-29-2015 05:11 PM | Re: Selling $1000+ item on eBay I was traveling through Atlanta and stopped by for some food and saw they were having a HUGE shoe collector show. People just had stands and showed off their collection and/or sold and bought shoes. I'd take it to one of those..
When you say expensive shoe, I am thinking of some limited edition Nike Jordans or something of the sort. |

solefoodbk | 01-29-2015 06:44 PM | Re: Selling $1000+ item on eBay Well I do know if they open a case on ebay and its local pickup, its possible I could get screwed out of the money that way.
I would have "no tracking" to "prove" its shipped because obviously local pick up. Another stupid loophole buyers have to scam us if they are dishonest.
I really have no idea what I'm going to do. I doubt I'll sell it on ebay so I have no problems saying what they are...
They're Nike 1971 USA colorway waffle sneakers haha. They are Nikes very first production of sneakers. The dates could be off since I don't really know but I know by the logo its Nikes OG "first" logo. The same style shoes from 1976 sold for 1100. The fact its the very first of Nikes production changes everything went it comes to their worth. Because there aren't any listed on ebay I really have no idea there true worth. There are defiantly signs of age and wear but they are also 40+ years old.
I will look to auctions and stuff that is local. I don't want to do craigslist because thats just way to much money to handle without proper paperwork.
I honestly think if any of my accounts get anything over 1000+ I'd get limited so if its maybe worth $1500+ there is NO way my accounts could handle that amount. The highest like I said is I think 300-400 dollars. There are way to many problems that could arise if I sell it on ebay/paypal. I'd obviously have to sell it on my more established accounts which would be risking them for starters, and then I'd have to worry about the buyer and issues there. I mean they're shoes so they can easily easily be "labeled f*kes" even if they are true authentics.
Since they're Nikes also... well I don't even need to say anything else :) |
solefoodbk | 01-29-2015 06:54 PM | Re: Selling $1000+ item on eBay I most defiantly will look into getting them authenticated. I'm sure whoever does buy them will require that anyways. I mean I would if I was spending that type of money.
I always read stories about being in a thrift store for 1-2 hours and grabbing that "last thing" not thinking anything of it but low and behold it being the biggest sale of your life. | All times are GMT -5. The time now is 01:31 PM. | |
