Selling $1000+ item on eBay

Hi everyone.

So I happened to find these pair of sneakers at this local salvation army store....did some research they are worth at least 1000 but possibly 2-4K?

I have no idea because they aren't listed on ebay (they are that rare). I plan on setting the price super high with "best offer" to test the waters out ....

The problem is...

How do I sell them or can I even?

I actually started this worried about the buyer, but didn't think about Paypal

I have NO paypal accounts ever recieving this type of money, ever. The highest sale is probably 300 bucks. I don't like doing any sales above a certain amount but....if they're worth what they're worth I obviously will try to get max value.

Any suggestions?

:help:

What a buzz kill to have such a valuable item that I might not be able to even sell because its worth so much.

First you must acquire a Paypal account then break it in to the point where Paypal get use to it so you can make large transactions.

Cash on collection if they are that valuable?

Watch out for the VERO takedown if this is branded. Are you 10000% sure they are the real mccoy?

Re: Selling $1000+ item on eBay

Well I have plenty accounts but none super aged nor recieving this type of money. I dont sell items that constantly would see this or close to this type of value either.

I'd do that but then you'd know my stealth account lol.

These really could be even possibly worth 5k-10k. Its partly the age of the shoes and partly the colorway. I picked them up out of my way of the store for 8 bucks.

I really had no idea they were worth this type of money. But the fact they are makes me want to obviously get the max value....

You made a thread on this ages ago.

Yet you did no prep for this happening?

100% postive.

Its defiantly branded...

I've NEVER listed a item for this amount ever.

Say I list it 5,500k best offer, wouln't that raise a HUGE flag with ebays bots?

:attention:

Isn't cash on collection kinda scary with that amount of money?

Its a thought though.

I never knew that?

I mean there should be more risk of selling a item for 2k+ than buying something 2k+, at least I would think.

Only reason I say that is selling & fraud compared to buying and well... paypal can't lose anything GENERALLY speaking.

Apparently I'm wrong?

I recently experienced being hit with a account limitation on a verified paypal account (which was nearing 5 months old) in regards to a very large sale compared to previous.

All documents were required , even more so than usual.

This little experience has shown me that PayPal Aus do react to transaction sizes and changes.

Just my two cents on this.

Better IMO than giving PayPal the chance to limit the account :thumb:

Take precautions and there should be no issues.

If they are really this valuable then wouldn't it be better to sell at a b&m sporting goods / memrobillia specialist auction? make sure they accept real time internet bids....

Leaves you risk free if the real deal ;)

Keep them off ebay

TOO much risk involved with this....

IF you MUST use ebay as a venue. Tell the winning bidder that its CASH ON PICKUP ONLY and do not even offer paypal as a payment (REFUND ASAP if they insist on it)

Meet at a store that can be populated AND verify INFRONT of the client

Wise words BigCJ and as clear a way to safeguard this transaction as its probably possible to do

Have you or anybody done this before?

How would I put that in the listing without getting ebay pissed off?

I'm totally in a new terrority here, never done this before.

I realize this little room for error here.

Re: Selling $1000+ item on eBay

Paypal may place 21 day hold on the transaction if you've never had big money deals go through before. Nothing you've never experienced before. Obviously ship with DIRECT signature confirmation. Will Paypal shut you down? Doubt it.

Re: Selling $1000+ item on eBay

Yes I have.
With an item around $300
I meet up in a WELL POPULATED and well lit area with a friend or family member and made sure that I counted money in front of them.

Cover all exits and escape routes just in case they get to jumpy

Another point is to see if you can go somewhere that the item relates too

IE: Jewelry store for gold necklace or electronic store for a MP3 or something like that.

Always KEEP CONTROL OF THE SALE and DO NOT let the buyer dictate your actions,

For 1k, its obviously something they want so they are more flexible. you shouldn't be at any point or costs. Its not a haggle its a straight sale. Any wavering and you just walk away.

If at any point you feel uneasy in the transaction LISTEN TO YOUR GUT.

Also, never walk or go straight home with the cash. Some nut may try to follow you. Walk around and deposit the cash at your local bank or something. Go eat, go bowling. Protect yourself.

Re: Selling $1000+ item on eBay

First off I have you gotten them checked to make sure they are real? They have shoe expos all over with shoe collectors who would probably pay more than what youd get from ebay. I would look into that before doing ebay. Id even say craigslist

You might need to get these appraised with documentation if someone is going to pay 5-$8000

Re: Selling $1000+ item on eBay

If you sell this item for anything close to 5k, even if it gets bidded up that high, your paypal will be limited 2 minutes after you receive the funds. This is if you do not have a paypal account accustomed to accepting this much money.

I tried this with an item that was 5400. The account was aged and have about 30 positive FB. As soon as buyer paid, here came the paypal limited email. They were not taking chances that they would be out of pocket to reimburse the buyer, so they was making sure that I was legit before I got my hands on the money.

You better use a real account or a very well established account.
