Returns & Defects

I had a return about a week ago and was expecting to get a defect shortly after the return request was opened. Well I refunded the buyer and still no defect.

I did a simply google search and read ebays policy...

Returns initiated through eBay's hassle-free returns process will count toward your transaction defect rate only when the buyer choses one of the reasons for the return related to your item description:

Missing parts or pieces
Damaged during shipment
Item defective
Item expired

Returns for these reasons are not counted toward your defect rate:

No longer want item
Found better price
Wrong size or doesn't fit

I'm assuming most people know this already but I didn't. Partly because I rarely process returns.

Its a little piece of mind for anyone thinking of selling clothes.

Yes there are ways around certain types of defects.
Just have to watch out for the reason you or the buyer choose for the request - be it a return or an order cancel request.

I've just gone ahead and turned OFF Ebays Hassle free returns. Nothing but problems.

if a seller has 'No returns" can a buyer still open a return request for whatever reason?

Agree - eB allows for returns even if a seller says No Returns

Of course.

Sellers' rights are 2nd to the buyers.

There's an option under site preferences for ebay managed returns that can be set to "no". Now if that does anything to stop buyers requesting a return I'm not sure as I haven't tested it.

Hypothetically speaking, say you could "turn off" returns via eBay....

They're still protected by paypal so it really doesn't matter. Like I said though, you can't "turn off" returns.

It is better to have "Returns" to be set as "Accepted". There are several reasons:
1) Some buyers are afraid of such lots, as they don't know that "No returns" means literally nothing.
2) These buyers, who bought but are not satisfied, would open a dispute instead of placing instantly a negative feedback
3) "No returns" actually do not protect the seller from getting refund requests.
4) "Returns accepted" are required for a top-seller rating
