I checked that I clicked the buyer changed mind option when I cancelled the sales but now my Defect rating has dropped D:

It shouldn't have dropped if you clicked the right option.
If it has that's a glitch and you might want to contact ebay about it. It would be a shame to lose that TRS status for nothing you've done wrong.
