| rainmaker | 03-21-2015 06:02 PM | Time to upgrade OS? I have windows 7 and I am thinking of upgrading or doing a fresh install of Windows 8.1 Pro. Should I do it? or should i stick with Windows 7? |
| skyline | 03-21-2015 09:38 PM | Re: Time to upgrade OS? If I had the option I would probably do the upgrade. |
Re: Time to upgrade OS? Me personally am not a big fan of 8, but 10 looks pretty good and should be coming out pretty soon so I'm going to wait for that |
Re: Time to upgrade OS? I wouldn't touch Windows 8 with a 10 foot poll......I'm very happy with Win 7. |
| bornlazy | 03-21-2015 11:25 PM | Re: Time to upgrade OS? windows 8 is terrible in my opinion, even in touch screen devices. stick with 7. |

What do you mean by this? | When creating a new account with Windows 8, the only way to sync changes and get the full functionality of Windows 8 is to set up the account with an MS/windows live account. This is kind of a pain since you would have to create a new MS account |

| Ditch syncing to microsoft services, they suck anyway. Did you know that you can cut the cord to syncing and make your account LOCAL ACCOUNT? That means no more logging with microsoft credentials. |

| empirestate | 04-01-2015 12:47 PM | Re: Time to upgrade OS? I enjoy Windows 8.1 improvements on speed. I'd say you get Startisback to solve all your Windows 8.1 anxiety. This is the best start menu I've tested so far. You will feel like you are using Windows 7 but with the benefits of Windows 8 technologies and speed. |
| plumsake2 | 04-01-2015 03:07 PM | Re: Time to upgrade OS? I use Windows 8 and although I wouldn't say it's for everyone (it's definitely better on touch devices), I agree that you should probably just wait for Windows 10 if you're looking to upgrade.
The main reason why I use Win8 is for various other advantages not necessarily related to stealth. Quote:

If you're connected to the internet then there's a prompt in the bottom that says "Sign in without a Microsoft account". If you're not connected to the internet then you won't even be given the option to create a MS account. I always turn airplane mode on when I'm done with a stealth account anyway, and so when I go to create a new user account I don't have to deal with those extra steps. A new UA can be created in seconds if you're not connected to the internet.
Personally I don't see any advantage to having a MS account for each user. If you needed to switch your stealth to another computer - well that's where portable browsers come in. A portable browser within a new user account is my go-to setup. |
Re: Time to upgrade OS? I still use XP on a lot of the machines I use for ebay/PP.. very snappy when you run the VM on an SSD and give it a few cores and some 2GB of ram.
Machines that I want to be more unique, I run 7, as 8 still uses more resources (remember, I do most of my work on my laptop and often will run 1-3VMs in the background). I then use Windows 8 on my main machines which then run the virtual machines.
Having dabbed with the Windows 10 tech preview, it looks promising. Mainly looks like it will combine the security implementations of W8 and make it feel more like Windows 7 with many customization options.
In my opinion, I recommend choosing the OS based on your specs. 1-2GB Ram for XP, 2-4GB for W7 and 4GB+ minimum for 8. If you run W8 with 2GB, you will likely not like the performance, etc. |

On a Intel i7 processor with 12GB of RAM i personally use all of Windows OS from XP to Windows 8.1 Pro, also used all Apple MAC OS running on VM just to mix thing up since ebay, Amazon can tell what system you are using. Just to be on the safe side just in case if they collect Fingerprints from your browser if that is true. |

| Baffled | 04-01-2015 03:49 PM | Re: Time to upgrade OS? Yeah tbh the main problem was just the start menu but there is a little mod for that now, would still wait for 10 imo |

I really don't like the UI of Windows 8/8.1, but the OS is faster than Vista and 7, so I just use mods to tweak the UI.
At the end of the day people can use what they, it's just a personal preferences, same with phones. |

:deadhorse: | Unless you mod it, then it's slightly better. I really don't like the default Windows 8, though. It looks like it's designed for touch screens, not a desktop/laptop with no touch screen. | | All times are GMT -5. The time now is 04:05 AM. | |
