EBAY Verification

Hi to all,

I am hoping for some advice. I followed the procedure in stealth guide and set up a new ebay account . Today I started to ist an item, a used smartphone. I received message to cal for verification . They asked my name birthday, my address . They asked if name on account is my full legal name(I said yes though it is not) . I gave them a fasle birthday. They wanted to know how long at current address. I told them 6 to 8 months though I just opened it VA. Now they say they are sending documents via email to confirm all this.

Here is what Ebay sent to me:
This message is to notify you that your listing activity has been placed on a temporary hold.

As part of our efforts to keep eBay a safe and enjoyable place to buy and sell, we may sometimes ask members to verify the information registered with us or provide us with more information about the items being sold. These actions are not necessarily meant to be a reflection of your account’s activity, but rather a preventative measure.

In order for us to review your account, I need to ask you to submit all of the following information by fax (fax number below):

- A readable copy of your driver's license, front *and* back, or other government-issued ID.

- A copy of a recent credit card statement, bank statement, or utility bill. Your name and billing address should be visible, and consistent with the information registered to your eBay account.






What do I do next? Is this account dead?

For sure, next time, do not list a smartphone as first item.

Start over, next time don't list any Electronics...that includes smartphones, laptops, etc. You have to start with low risk items.

So if set up a new account and let it age for 30 days I will be fine? Will I ever be able to sell an item like a smartphone without being asked for this verification?

Yes, you have to gain eBay trust by selling non-risky stuff first.

Look in the forum, plenty of posts on what to sell as first item like:

After that you'll start selling one phone nad then you will add something more in a week or two.
I do not know if 30 days are enough for a US account... wait US members to give advices.

Electronics is a high risk, high fraud market. Not good for a newbie anyway. Practice a bit first.

And to answer your question - no 30 days is not enough.
youll need to be a seller for several months and have a decent amount of history and feedback in order to start selling those sort of high risk items.

It's more than just "aging", aging doesn't really make the account rock solid. Need to sell low risk items, need to sell for a while and get positive feedback. This is just my personal opinion but I would wait at least 60 days and at least try and have a solid 20-30 positive feedbacks before listing smartphones and other electronics.

Selling smartphone is a bad idea for a start, unless you have all papers in hand. But... as you've already got this request, you may try to be creative with the documents they ask, it may work though.

The account is probably a zero feedback account, it would be easier to start over....than investing time/money into trying to be creative....

Why not, time investments for creativity are totally worth it. But if one can't use PS on a high level, it could be problem, that's true.
