Default Can't eBay tell you don't live there via delivery confirmation?

So I'm reading in this book about shipping out from an address that's far away from the 'item location' on eBay. There seems to be a good reason to not cluster all your users in one area, because that's one extra link that PayPal has. If there was a sudden surge in "Bondooglers" in an area, I'd think paypal's bots would notice. (It wouldn't be an instantaneous link, but the bots would eventually converge on the pattern after several hours/days.)

However, wouldn't eBay be able to tell you don't live there when you upload your delivery confirmation information?

Surely ebay checks this stuff?

If I said I lived in Florida and the item location was in Florida, but it shipped out from somewhere in Texas according to delivery confirmation, I'd think ebay/paypal would notice this and take note.

So how do you handle this aspect? I understand telling the customer you're drop shipping, but what about the ever-knowledgeable PayPal/eBay duo? Isn't that risky? What's a better way and/or the best way?

Just dont edit the "ship from zip code" if you print from ebay. That has proven to be an issue if you have 10-20 or more accounts selling kinda similar items from accounts all across the country from one zip code.
It is easy to just not change it if you are shipping small items.

If you need accurate postage for bigger items, then use stamps, endicia, shipstation, etc....and just upload tracking.

Are we talking about eBay or the Pentagon? If your customer is getting his product I don't think eBay would be looking to see where every product on there site is being sent from. Think a bigger issue would be how you would handle your ship from address. Ebay customers often buy products located close to them. If your saying shipping from New York and your really in California that might upset a customer when they check the tracking. That is why I usually stick with the same state. I wouldn't create a bunch of stealth accounts in the same zip code.

Another issue could be return address if your using the stealth account Paypal to purchase shipping. Returns in general could be a hassle as I have had customers send products back to my stealth address.

I think people over think things just a bit in how hard eBay is looking for things. If eBay wanted to know every one of there users they require SSN. They could do address verification thru the mail. They could make it impossible to do anything without logging on to the site. I say this quietly but in terms of websites eBay could be much worse.

Finding VPNs located in my outpost of a town is pretty hard. If I were a wee bit closer to a big city (The nearest one is 300 miles away), that wouldn't be an issue.

So when you upload the tracking number, ebay/paypal isn't tracking the 'point of origination' info? I don't really think ebay is the pentagon, per se, but paypal sure seems like it.

Other people(Ebay/paypal users) use my internet, so I can't just be changing my WAN IP whenever I feel like it and not have paypal notice.

We have no idea what you are talking about at this point. What does VPN, WAN or anything of the such have to do with addresses?

You lost us, we have no clue what planet you are on right now so we can not help you in any way.

You're right - I'm a former 99 asvab nuke. But, iz can still figure it out.

Ok, so, I'll just assume that it's going to be OK that my user is 3 states away from me. I told myself as long as it was on the same coast (Roughly same shipping time for most US locations), everything should be fine. I'll try for closer big cities next time, same state is a good idea.

I've never heard of anyone having a problem because the origin was different than the state they are registered. I could imagine a situation where if your calling ebay support lets say to get selling limit raised maybe a rep would say something. I've never had it happen but perhaps it could.

I don't see Paypal or eBay caring all that much as long as customers are getting what they paid for. Paypal probably cares less because your not advertising your location with them. People do drop shipping all the time. Many websites that take Paypal you might not know where the product is coming from. Ebay does try to gives customers some idea of where the product is coming from so that could be an issue if customers complain that they thought they were buying something 5 miles away and find out its 500 miles away. I don't think they would suspend you for it and just changing the ship from should handle that.

Now if this was Amazon. I use to work for them and they think they are the Pentagon. Amazon looks for reasons to kick sellers off the site. Who knows if an account is under review and the agent that reviews the account sees tracking numbers are coming from some random location they might pull the plug. Maybe an eBay Trust and Safety rep would do the same if an account was suspended under appeal..
