EBay Disclosed Sellers' Personal Information to Bidders, Will Change Practice
 

I don't know if anyone happened to see this but apparently ABC did a news story about it. I rarely get user information requests maybe once a year. With today's public information all you need is a name and a city and you find addresses, phone numbers, etc. Not so worried about my stealth accounts but my legit account. People knowing where I live and seeing my inventory etc. Glad to see they will finally be getting rid of it.

That is good news. Like you, I rarely get these. But you never know when some kook will make the request and make it his mission in life to pester you or take you down. We seem to have become a society where some people - probably the majority now - are not happy simply because things are going well for THEM - they need to make other people suffer and be miserable in order to achieve their true happiness.

Keep in mind we as sellers can flip the script and use this as a tool to prevent fraud.

I just did this actually. Somehow I sent a buyer two items at two different times. I reprinted the shipping the label via shipstation SOMEHOW again a couple days later and sent him another package.

He sends me a message claiming he only got the second package (cheaper item) and wants to know what will be done about it. I send him a detailed message telling him I don't condone fraud and I know what your trying to do etc etc. Kept in completely professional because if you don't its easy for a buyer to call your bluff.

I said depending on your response I will be opening a case via eBay, and will be contacting my local authorities, yours, and will be filing a report of mail fraud. I can't remember if I told him I would request his information or not but as soon as he responded with (I'm going to open a case soon response) I immediately requested his information and let it be for 2 days....

Somehow he found first package the next day :)

When people use their real info and try to scam us, this tool can be VERY useful as a bluff.

I've had people request my info several times, didn't care since it was all stealth but I wondered why....

I had a mentally ill seller, probably selling ⊗⊗⊗⊗/faulty printers that requested my stealth info because I didn't pay him.

I know its not right to bid and not pay, I had a change of heart and he seemed very sketchy. Turns out he was. He actually said he was going to report me and have this affect my credit score and all sorts of other weird pointless threats! :pound:

Obviously no normal seller selling authentic merchandise would go to that length if it wasn't something else.

I should of kept him going but once I said stop or I will report you and get you banned from eBay, he shutup :)
