Default Listing knocked back 6 pages??

One of my listings which was on the top of the 1st page search results, had suddenly been knocked to page 3. I thought this was a weird occurrence so I ended the listing and relisted it again. Now it's at page 7??(Though it's been about 15 hours so far)

I noticed my main competitor was also knocked back by a page all of a sudden.

This is really weird as my other products are still on the top of 1st page.
Anyone know what's going on?

I had this recently. for 3 weeks i was no where to be seen and always occupied top 5 place. I complained to ebay and got the usual rubbish saying its all worked on title, feedback etc. annoying thing was id been using same listing template for a year and had someone with feedback of 10 at the top of the rankings and my feedbacks over 3000.

strangely enough after my moan 2 days later im back where I was

They probably just re-indexed the search results

I think they periodically try out different placements in order to statistically sample the results to find the "best performing listings". (And, they might just be trying out different algorithms for that particular keyword set to optimize the keyword-specific algorithm itself.)

Whatever it is, it's clear they do ongoing sampling to find the best performing listings, just like google does.

Agreed.

But I can assure you complaining to rep about your listing status does absolutely nothing but waste time.

These are computer generated algorithms. Reps we talk to can't even reverse simple limitations generated by bots..

eBay moves stuff around all the time. I never bother to check my search rankings UNLESS I notice a drop-off in sales. That is the best way to tell if eBay is messing with you. And at the same time you see your listing on page 7, another user might see it on page 4, while another sees it on page 1.

I have noticed the same thing. As long as my numbers are where they should be, I leave it how it is.

There is no way to control their search algorithms. Having said that a few things can help you...
  • Being a Top Rated Seller
  • Avoiding Negative Feedback
  • Offering Free Shipping
  • Offering a refund period of at least 30 days

100% true.

About 6 months ago I sold two cashmere sweaters to the same person internationally (Australia) but he bought from two different stealth accounts. They were two completely different brands and yet somehow he bought both.

That freaked me out just because it caught me off guard. If you just search "cashmere sweater" you will see how many search results there are....

The only possible way is somehow my sweaters when he searched via eBay.au searched high.

No method to the madness... especially when you know its a BOT not a human doing it.

Adding to that, offering same day or 1 day shipping and (almost) always shipping on time.

Being Top rated covers that...

Unless your not at the 100/1K in sales.

I suspected as such but a rather important point for those who don't know (LIKE ME, lol.). Any other important Top Rated Seller criteria that hasn't been covered but good to know?

(Although, if I were to be nitpicky, you could be meeting that performance metric without having yet officially attained TRS status.)

Have you added product identifiers?

EBay have said those without them will lose rank. And it came in to effect recently.
