People low balling on best offers

Okay, so this has happened about 5 times now w/ my new account. I don't get it or understand why/how people can try to get something for below cost. Yes, once, I did accept the offer and let her get it at cost w/ free shipping, only to get feedback and I did. But then I looked at what she was selling and she had items for 3 to 4 hundred bucks. Well it happened again today, someone made an offer for actually below cost to me, I was shocked they even offered so low. Then I went on their wall and they also had items for 3 to 400 bucks, maybe it was the same person, who knows. I'm just really frustrated with the fact people know what these items cost and to low ball like that is insane. Guess it doesn't hurt to try. I had to vent, thank you. lol

I would imagine it is "other" sellers checking how cheap you are willing to go . See if ur undercutting them . I would set it to a min allowed offer amount .

Also wondering why you are offering them on a new account?

I prefer to avoid hassles like you appear to be experiencing in an account's infancy.

Yea, I figured that. But for some reason it's not giving me accept or decline best offer option. Just best offer, idk why, maybe it's because I'm "new"

If the low-ballers are bothering you that much, remove Best Offer all together.

Well, I've only used it on a few items because I'm willing to negotiate, I was just shocked on how low they actually went.

People on eBay literally want stuff for nothing. Unfortunately, it can be like scammers paradise also you must be careful. I have been selling since I was 17 in 2005 so I have seen it all.

I get people with sob stories all the time about being on disability and people dying or whatever. While I feel for people I know half of it is a bunch of nonsense.

Personally I advocate against best offers because the rule of eBay is: "The person who pays the least complains the most" If you do accept them definitely use the settings to have a lowest offer you automatically reject. For my listings I put an automatic accept offer closer to my listing price then have some gray area in-between for negotiation.

For me it is maybe 5% of items I sell that have a best offer feature. It can help but just set it up so you automatically decline buyers with crazy low offers.

With the internet too you never know who is drunk or high or stoned or whatever sending you crazy messages or offers.

And that's exactly what they did yesterday said they were really old and had no money, so then I looked at what they have bought or had for sale. And of course there were items for 3 to 4 hundred bucks, I was like okay. Whatever, gtfoh lol

Me? No - I reject low ball bids on the regular. I don't use an "automatically accept offer of XXX amount" feature.

I have seen it, in the past, but it's not there the past few times I've checked the best offer box. Maybe it's a glitch on my end, who knows.

If the offer is too low it tells you something about how much trouble they're going to be, block them and move on.

When you give the option for best offer you have to expect these buyers. When you give the option to negotiate the price than you should expect offers to come in low, as a buyer the smart thing is to give a low offer and start there, any negotiation the buyer will start low and the seller high, and than eventually will meet in the middle.

Just use BIN with no best offer option and bring your price down to where you feel its at a fair price that you think a buyer should offer in your current best offer listing, and no need to deal with the hassle anymore.

I stopped using the 'best offer' feature because I got tired of answering offers from people who have no idea the value of the item. They would offer 25% of the price I was asking. When I would decline, they would message me and ask why I think the item is worth that much. Good Grief. Well mainly because that's what it's been consistently selling for????

Every now and then I will still get a message from an uniformed buyer on why my items cost what they do. I don't respond. I block. That tells me they are trouble and I can't have issues with my account from some crazy buyer. I would rather lose the sale than have a return on my account or negative feedback/item not as described, etc. Not worth it.

My method: Don't offer best offer. And if I do, set the minimum that I will take for the item and auto reject mega lowballers.
