"smart" home products are insanely popular and are being sold everywhere, haha. But thanks for that.. |
Re: For those that unplug ur router to change ip's Nice find bluegrass1 - one of the times that if it isn't needed urgently...I might be tempted to buy from China hah |

| aspkin | 03-29-2016 08:25 AM | Re: For those that unplug ur router to change ip's I was seriously considering one of those devices for office lighting.. I guess they would be good for resetting the cable modem too!
Though.. now I use a Verizon MiFi device off eBay. :/ |

| dallis | 03-29-2016 09:46 PM | Re: For those that unplug ur router to change ip's I use a light on/off remote control to turn my router off and on. Works great. Easy. |
| Dmshark25 | 03-29-2016 10:34 PM | Re: For those that unplug ur router to change ip's I have comcast or Xfinity, and a couple years back i just decided to try changing the mac thru router settings and than after i applied that i would just click reboot router also in router settings and that does it the ip will change.
When i first started i would power on and off the modem and router, which added some time. Now i never need to reset or power on/off the modem, just reset router thru router settings
If anyone has xfinity see if it works, this will make it even less of a hassle |

If anyone has xfinity see if it works, this will make it even less of a hassle | Also depends on the router u use. At home I have a older dual band router not AC or nothing fancy and all I have to do is power off the router to reset it. As to at my GF's o have a AC 1200 Linksys and I have to power the dam thing off like 2 times along with the modem just to get the internet to work on it its a PITA to switch ips on that one compared to the older router. |

Id love to be able to switch my router on/off when in bed hahah! |
| JamesNorth101 | 03-30-2016 04:53 PM | Re: For those that unplug ur router to change ip's Depends on the range
If its a long enough range then you can turn it on and off from outside the house |

Gonna get my "research cap" on and get ordering! |
| Freestyle2384 | 04-02-2016 06:15 AM | Re: For those that unplug ur router to change ip's Proceed with caution. I use a similar 3 plug remote control to change IP's also that shuts off my route and modem. But I was losing accounts and getting linked every 3-4 months. For the past 11 months, I have only only used one account and it has lasted since. I am thinking my linking and accounts not lasting was due to this remote control way of changing IP's... |

HOW the IP changes is irrelevant, so long as it changes.
Either you failed to actually CHANGE the IPs (always check, never assume) or you were linked in some other manner (same products, I'd bet.) |

Wherever I lived my method worked perfectly. But whatever, lol I just wanted to say that there is an easy way to restart your router from your PC, just in case some ppl here didn't know.
My serious opinion is that the router restart method sucks, except you are **** well organized and don't ever forget to restart / reset your router.... I'll rather invest a few bucks in a few VPNs and keep stuff separated. | | All times are GMT -5. The time now is 11:24 PM. | |
