seller limits reduced today, told computer error

My seller limits were reduced today by 25%.

I had to call twice to find out that this was a computer error.
The first person in seller limits told me it was because I wasn't
listing at least half the amount of items that I am limited to
and the computer normally does this.

Second person I spoke to when I called again told me it was
a computer error and fixed it immediately.

Just thought I would post so in case it happened to anyone else
you can call and get them put back up.

------------------------------------------------------
I was notified with an email with the subject:

"We need some information before you can list more"

The body of the email is this:

We recently reviewed your selling account and unfortunately, we have decreased how much you can list on eBay. For now, here's how much you can list:

User ID: xxxxx

Items: 1000 reduced to 750

Amount: $50,000.00 reduced to $37,500.00

If you would like to list more items on eBay, we will need to know some more information about you first. There are two ways to do it:

1. The easiest way is to request to list more items on eBay right now. You can always come back to the link in this email to request a review of your selling account.

2. You can also wait until you are ready to list another item. We will show you how to request to be able to list more items at that time.

User ID: *********

Items: 90 ---> 68

Amount: $13,500.00 ---> $10,125.00

Got this across 7 different accounts today.

What the hell???

And the reductions seem to be random. reduced to 68??? What the??

Anybody know what's going on?

chicagoIL can you tell me anything specific about the conversation you had with the second rep that told you it was a computer error? Did you call under the "request to list more" link, or did you just call ebay's general customer service number

Re: seller limits reduced today, told computer error

Both times I used the link in the email to call.
The first agent acted like I was supposed to have the limits reduced because I was not listing enough. She told me I should list at least half the number of items that I am allowed. This conversation was about 10 minutes. She basically told me that the computer reviews accounts and sets limits and that no person can adjust them. She said to just live with the new limits until the computer reviews my account again. I was pretty upset. I got off the phone and about a half hour later decided to re-read the email. It didn't agree with what she told me. The email was instructing me to call and have my limits increased?
Second call, I got a different agent, I said my limits had been dropped for no apparent reason and I wanted to talk to someone about it. That quick he said he had to check my account but that there was a problem going on with the system and that it was randomly dropping limits by 25% and that they were aware of it and were making a list of the accounts that it happened to so they could make sure they were restored to the previous limits. He corrected it right when he was on the phone with me. My limits are back to what they were. He noted my account and said if it happened again to call and have them review the notes and they would be able to put my limits back. His name was Michael and he was in the seller limits dept. I didn't have to go into anything about it.

I am sure they hate me at ebay. I call and ask for supervisors, I will call back and ask for another supervisor. Too many times they don't know what they are doing and I call back and get someone else who takes care of it. Way too many times. My advice is call back until you get somewhere.

Thanks for the info Chicago, I will look into calling and see how it goes. If it's quick and easy I'll check into calling for the rest of my accounts this happened to. Unfortunately I really don't have time to call for each account, and being as though I stop selling on these accounts before I hit Tax ID, it doesn't really affect me all too much. But since your second experience with the ebay rep was quick and easy, I'll give it a shot. Thanks again.

Doesn't seem to be random, reduced by exactly 25%. Should be the same error as the OP

Dare I ask wtf a computer error creates such a freakish event?

Totally appalling .

Monkeys must have been given bad bananas in their pay.

Hate you or not - that's none of your concern....you do business...and calling back and asking for someone else is a good move

Sadly, later comments showed it was not hassle free though.

speaking of selling limits, i thought selling limits were supposed to reset on the 1st? My selling limits on some accounts are still 0 and it is the first. Does it take awhile to reset?
