Changing phone number in paypal, will original still be used for verifications

Can someone with more experience tell me: if I change the paypal p[hone number (i no longer have access to it) and delete the current one, will paypal still ask me for the original number in the future if I need verification or to add a new bank account?

i would add the new set it as primary and leave the old until the new one sticks then delete the old. Might take 30-60 days

Are you speaking from experience? So far I've found paypal to be very stubborn about forever keeping that sacred "original" number.

many users have problems so it is important to get the phone number sorted.

I dont really see that you have much of a choice

The sooner you do it and the longer you leave it before doing something that may trigger them to need to contact you via the original number the better

Yes speaking from experience. Yes there's a time frame. It's best to add it right away and not after they request it then u add it. Long delay.
