Default Bank Account Site Visit

I wonder how common this is.

I make a bank account, and they want to actually visit the site of my office. It kind of just pisses me off, what if I'm working from home?

They want to see inside, operations, and everything. I never experienced this from one of the big banks, but a smaller one, yes.

Only had banks visit when financing or refinancing a property. Any other reason i would tell them to get a f***ing warrant and take my business elsewhere.

Great, I thought it was only me who was dumb. They said it's "protecting themselves".

This is at M&T Bank, it's their policy. I highly suggest not using them.

Was this a business bank account you were trying to set up?

If it wasn't and they thought you would be using a personal account for business purposes, that could be why they questioned you.

Regardless, I would immediately close the account and bank elsewhere.

Default Bank Account Site Visit

Out of curiosity, is your business address in a newly built area?, I would of thought maybe they couldn't find you on their database so wanted to make a physical visit check.

Even though it is their policy, I doubt they do this to every customer, it would be tedious and costly for the most part. Something must have triggered them to ask to see physical location.

I tried M&T once, nothing but problems with them. At first, they were heavily overcharging fees (it wasn't just me who had this problem and apparently they got into legal trouble). Then they kept bothering me with additional calls and mail. One of the worst banks I ever used, would never go back to them.

This is silly unless you are asking for big business loan - wow.

Tell them to go **** themselves, or start charging ticket money for entry- Both very valid options in my opinion.
