Shipping Question - Am I screwed?

I recently sold a buyer an item for $400.00. But now I'm really scared because when I try to get proof of delivery from FedEx it says that I need to attach a number that I used when I shipped it.

I didn't use a FedEx number so I basically cannot access full proof of delivery. The only proof of delivery they give me is that they shipped and delivered to the buyer's city, it does not show the address.

Now I'm scared that the buyer may try to claim he never got his package and I will be screwed when eBay asks for proof of delivery.

TL;DR: Does eBay accept proof of delivery that only says "Delivered to [Customer's City & State]" or do they need a address?

Don't get ahead of yourself. There's a chance this transaction will go smoothy without any disputes, right? Our $400+ orders are usually returning wholesale customers, and we never have problems with those guys.

A USPS tracking number would only have shown "DELIVERED IN/AT MAILBOX" or something similar, followed by the zip code where the package was delivered. USPS doesn't show the address unless you use certified mail, as far as I'm aware. So if you do have a dispute, the Fedex tracking number showing delivery in your buyer's city may be good enough.

Oh man, my worst nightmare has come true. The guy is requesting a refund saying he never got his product.

I'm so screwed. The tracking only shows it was delivered to his city and state. I just lost $400.

You are saying tracking only showed that it was delivered.

Where is the tracking from?

I didn't know you could send FEDEX without tracking if that's what you're writing.

I know. But he's saying he never got the package and is requesting a refund. I did not give him a refund and only attached the tracking number to the refund request page. He hasn't responded yet.

But once eBay steps in I'm worried they will ask for proof of delivery that shows his address. Since I didn't attach a FedEx account number to the shipment I cannot access full proof of delivery. The only proof of delivery FedEx will give me is the basic one that shows it was delivered to his city and state.

why not just contact Fedex and request a letter with the information you request ?

They will supply you with that!

I figured. I think I'll take the loss. But I still have a small hope in me that he won't win and I will win.

I think I would have requested a signature for $400. wish you a good outcome though and lesson learned. We all have made some boo boos here.
