The complete step-by-step guide to get back to selling today!
Every category will have unique ups and downs but generally speaking August is slow. Now if you sell back to school supplies or related, it will be your best month and if you are selling Graduation gifts and Easter bunnies it is gona be pretty bad
It's quiet for me across both Eb.ay and Et.sy, but I know last year was exactly the same. This time of year with the good weather and the kids being off school has a big affect on my product
I had the same experiences around a month ago. As everyone pointed out, just the seasonal ups and downs. I had to venture into new products to level out sales. But sales of certain items have come back. Just get ready for Black Friday and the holidays and you will be fine.
The ebay hub will give you a general idea if your category is up or down...
I know my category is up 3% from last month and I'm up 8% so I guess better then average. However still down 18% from last year at this time.
Personally, I think that whole category thing is silly. Yeah, my sales are up higher than my category, but that's through really pushing customers, and by listing much more. Without knowing other factors, how can we really know if the category average actually means anything to us?

It means if the market itself itself is soft on the platform. It is not a measure of anything more than that. You and Me and Everyone can always cut out a piece if we want. You sell items you like and are familiar with. I sell items in an industry I am passionate about. Up markets and downmarket alike, we will still be doing it.
One example is if a category get flooded with Chinese sellers. It will show UP but profit will be way down.
Another example is if a category us soft for an extended time, many sellers drop off and the ones left take up a bigger percentage of sales each.

I've got a lot of chinese sellers selling ⊗⊗⊗⊗ stuff and "⊗⊗⊗⊗" stuff. I buy most of the stuff I sell on ebay. Takes so much searching to wade through all the ⊗⊗⊗⊗ crap, and even I have trouble sometimes figuring out if something is ⊗⊗⊗⊗.
I report and report and report. Nothing. An aftermarket part that has the brand logo, is COUNTERFEIT. end rant
