136 Sales - Only 46 feedbacks!

I was looking at one of my legit accounts which I haven't used in a while and I remembered how ridiculous this was...

I have 136 Sales and only 46 FEEDBACKS! All these sales were within the last year by the way. All for the same item essentially - just different variations. (I currently have a total of 50 feedback on the account since the other 4 were just feedback I got from buying stuff.)

I have no negatives. Just 2 neutrals. Never had any disputes or problems with any of the sales either. Lots of the feedback comments mention "great communication" and "fast shipping". And they're right - it was fast shipping and good communication for everyone who bought from me. Yet only 33% of people left me feedback!

At first, I remember I was waiting for the buyers to leave feedback first. Then I started leaving it first and noticed that they'd return the feedback a little more often. Still didn't seem to make much of a difference though.

What do you think?

I probably should have over 100 feedback and be a Top Rated Seller! My DSRs are currently 4.7, 4.6, 4.3 and 4.4 out of 5. If more people had left feedback, I believe I would have gotten more 5 star ratings, and would have qualified to be a Top Rated Seller.

I was aware of this for a while but just thought I'd post here and ask what any of you think of this.

i believe you don't need 100 feedback just 100 transactions. maybe you are not fitting into the other guidelines? uploading tracking time and returns?

My point here is not all about being a Top Rated Seller. The fact that only 46/136 people left feedback is terrible when there's absolutely nothing wrong.

And I just posted my DSRs which you can see - some need to be slightly higher to qualify for Top Rated Seller. If more people left feedback, there's a very high chance that those DSRs would be higher..

And "uploading tracking" isn't a requirement. Not everything is shipped with tracking.

Have you tried leaving a note in the packages asking for a feedback? I usually print a packaging slip asking my buyers to kindly leave a feedback on their spare time and if anything was wrong just contact me and I will work things out for them. I don't get a feedback every time but usually 7 out of my 10 buyers will generally leave a positive feedback.

Also I know this is a common trick but in-case you aren't doing it you could always undersell yourself by setting a 2-3 handling time and actually ship it after the first day so they receive the package quicker than expected. This gives the buyers a great impression although you might not be doing anything different than what you normally do (assuming you ship the product after 1 day all the time).

Its normal.... not everyone leaves feedback. Once they get product they dont care. There is really no huge benefit to get feedback.... Just make usre you provide best service for everyone and DSR will take care of itself.

Personally if I had that DSR it would be a failing account for me.

Yeah for my last 30-40 items sold I started leaving a sheet of paper which I layed right on top of the item - so they saw it as soon as they opened the box. It kindly asked for feedback & 5 stars but it helped only a little bit.

I haven't sold on the account for over 6 months so I forget how soon I was shipping out, but just from looking at my feedback comments, a lot of people wrote "fast shipping".

I just posted this here about it to see what people think and what could have possibly went wrong..I was going to start selling some other things on there and was kinda disappointed at the fact that I could and should have at least 100 feedback on there right now.

33% of people leaving feedback is not "normal".

And judging by the item I was selling, I'd assume most customers of mine were teens who could care less about giving or receiving feedback, and DSRs when they actually do leave it.

And that DSR isn't even a good reflection of my selling. Those DSRs were from 33% of my customers. I'd imagine out of the other 67% of people who could have left feedback, there'd be quite a few "all 5 star DSRs" which would raise the averages to where they should be. My whole point is that my feedback score and DSRs don't properly reflect my selling at all, unfortunately.

Well its normal for me... I find if everything goes smooth and quick then customers tend to not leave feedback. Out of the 20,000 sales on one account I have only 6,000 or so feedback... It really has no negative impact after a while...

You're comparing 50 feedbacks to 6,000 buddy. It's completely different circumstances.

Pro-rata it is NOT.

No circumstances are so different on ebay when you are struggling to get feedback or upset that no feedback gets left.

My suggestion is to up your approach in several ways.

There's no order and your own preferences to choose

Consider automatic feedback for buyers. May entice them better. Check in 6 weeks times to see if there's changes.

Improve on a 'sheet of paper' unless it's attractive. Most buyers will throw out sheets of paper.

A note works, also delivery on what your selling. Feedback is earned, not given unless we talk about other methods.

Maybe try taking the e-mail address provided in the paypal transaction, creating a page that looks like a business page, and then adding them on facebook. Ask them to leave you positive feedback and you will put them in a drawing to earn $1,000 or something.

33% is a bit low. My experience is about 50 - 60% if you do nothing, a little more if you take some measures like a "thank you " note or a cheap freebie and the like.

However, FB's are not really that important ones you get to a certain number, DSR's are.
Sure, it must be frustrating to have 136 transactions and only 46 FB's.

Really a bummer on new accounts when you have 10 items selling limits. Hard to improve if you get only 3 FB's and need to wait longer for more listings.

Some time i offer a incentive that would make them want to leave feedback. But you have to get creative in what your selling to make this work for you.

I dont see any difference in people buying low end or high end leaving or not leaving feedback. About the same.
