Refund while funds on hold

Any idea how to refund if funds from the sale are held? Official way is to use own funds. Is there any way to use the logical way - balance?

if funds are held refund should still be possible otherwise you can add a debit card

I mean that, say, a customer has paid me 1000 usd. These 1000 are held till a certain date and unavailable for payout. Customer has opened a dispute, and wants 1000 back. By a common sense I should be able to send him his own 1000 from the balance and problem solved. But eBay wants me to pay my own 1000 from a bank or card and then release the initially held 1000 to me. Any workarounds? I once had this, ebay said to escalate this to a case so they can manually do that, but then account got suspended. Does not really make any sense to behave like a ****ty seller and allow escalation just to avoid paying own funds. Any solution to this? I'd be happy to pay with my own funds, but in this case amount is way too big and that is impossible.

does the balance show the total amount higher than what is supposed to be refunded? usually they allow to refund pending funds unless there is not enough balance

Only canceling order will work on your end but the customer can open a return or file a payment dispute and eBay will force the refund.

Manually refunding from payment hold would not work, you will be asked to add debit card to fund the refund

I refunded many cases with held funds in the past , only reason why I could not was when the balance was insufficient. the available balance must always show a positive number , if it is negative ebay would not allow to refund but would ask to use card

it may not charge the entire refund amount though but it usually takes the negative number from card and rest of amount from balance

rule of thumb: if it shows that any amount is ready for disbursement (even it is only a dollar) this means that an open case can be refunded if funds for the case were reserved by ebay

This is an example of the situation. Real digit is way higher and I have no any possibility to refund it from the card.

I have the same issue, I didnt add my debit card, I am not going to add my debit card to ebay. I contacted chat support, no help, they told me to have the buyer open a refund claim on their end.

I'm still not gonna add my debit card to ebay for a refund.

So if someone paid me, say, 10k, and is suddenly unhappy, but funds are still on hold, eBay wants me to pay 10k out of my pocket? Not going to happen, it is just a nonsense.

By the way, if you allow a case to be opened, it would cause a defect to the account, and create a high possibility of suspension.

I am dealing with something like that right now, but its $429. I'll take the hit of a defect.

In my current case, the buyer bought it thinking it was something else, I havent shipped it yet.

Yes you will have to add a payment source ebay has change everything despite they claim they support sellers but they don't.Do they ??

My payment source is the bank account.

If you haven't shipped the item yet let the customer know to send in a cancellation request. If not then proceed with the cancellation process as usual.
You won't get a hit.

why cant you tell the buyer his money is on hold and ask him to wait.
if he opens a case,it will make you look bad,I dont think you get suspended for that,plenty of sellers have to refund,they are still selling
has he returned the item yet?

Seller won't wait, as for any normal person non-immediate refund is a nonsense. But ebay somehow wants to punish the seller and forces him either to get a defect and refund for him, or to pay his own money to avoid a defect.

Did he buy something from you?did he return the item with tracking?If he has,you have 3 days to refund .
It sounds like you need to have sufficient working capital for situation like this.

UPDATE. It is possible to refund with the funds on hold:

1) balance should be 0 or more
2) funds held should be enough to cover the refund. If not, make sure your card has enough money to cover the missing part
3) card should be added with a correct billing address as they do AVS check during the charge
