Error: "Your refund could not be processed.

Hi everyone,

I’m having an issue processing a refund for a buyer and could really use some advice.

When I try to send the refund, I get the following error:
“The refund could not be processed. Please add a payment method for the return to the buyer.”

The problem is — I already have a bank account added and verified on my eBay account. However, when I go to select a payment method for the refund, the bank account doesn’t appear as an option, so I can’t proceed.

Has anyone experienced this before? Is there something I’m missing, or another way to complete the refund?

Have you tried buying something and see if your bank account appear?

If possible, get your sales up so you can cover the refund from your available balance.


Always best to avoid a charge to the bank account.

It would help if you have a balance on eBay from sales that they can dip into.

As others have suggested, increase sales so ebay balance would cover the refund balance, other option is to add a card for selling costs.

Yes so I've had this stupid error happen myself, it's because the fees are counted in and are maybe a surplus to what is in your balance or the funds are still with eBay but not available so the system thinks there's no money to refund the buyer, whatever, not important why it happens, but what I did was simply jump into live chat, explain the issue and have a human at customer service manually do it from their end. It's an error on eBay's side and makes no sense as the money for the order I'm assuming is still in their escrow, so it makes no sense for you to have to pay out of pocket when the money is still with them, right? Again best thing to do is jump into live chat, communicate it and you will get someone from the correct department that will manually do it on their end takes 24-48 hours. Also communicate the same to your buyer so he is aware and doesn't blame you for any delays.

Stealth or not, I wouldn't trust leaving balances in eBay's possession. Withdraw everything you get as you get it. My 2 cents.

You buyer fund may not be in Ebay account,most use credit cards,and some cc could take longer to collect/
