I have searched the forum but haven't found any relevant information, I'm looking to open up Canadian paypal business or premier account for my translation services and wondering if they ask for SIN number?

Thank you, same to you! Even though it's voluntary, I assume they not gonna like if you refuse to provide it in case of any limit/suspension? I do have temporary sin# starting with 9, which is usually being given to newcomers or temporary residents, so I was thinking to get normal SIN first..
Not sure about the need to provide it when you upgrade to a business account but I do know they might ask for it if the account is limited for whatever reason. And the temporary one will work just fine in that case as long as you can prove it belongs to you (they might request a picture of your SIN card).

It's mandatory alright. A few accounts in the last 3 months have asked for it. And no way for them to remove this or anything of that nature, even when calling in.
Does Canadian paypal require SIN#?
