Default An interesting call with a eBay rep

Hi, so today i was on the phone to one of the risk safety team members on ebay (trying to reinstate an account with no luck).

And they said to me ebay are shutting down power sellers like crazy for the smallest things (1 late delivery etc).

SO people, never get complacent with the account, no matter how old it is. The rep also told me a story about how she had to suspend an account from 1997! 50,000+ feedback.

I'm not sure why she was telling me all of this as i would think its against protocol but some ebay reps are quite transparent.

Another interesting thing she said was that the back team who suspend accounts don't go around looking for accounts to hunt, but rather they wait for the bots to do the work. So that common misconception of the back office hunting for suspicious accounts can be laid to rest lol.

Moral of the above; just make as much accounts as you can lads.

Also, has anyone had an account suspended that is over 10 years old? Would be interesting to hear your story.

I have and run multiple 15 year old accounts.

NONE suspended. Frankly ever since I adopted the stealth guide I haven't gotten suspended once except when I made clearly made a mistake.

I have just lost a 9 year old account closed over a two unconnected VERO actions, one a clever but malicious act. The other was a fair cop.

I do not believe that they are closing down powersellers like crazy over a single minor infraction like late delivery though. That is metrics driven and simply untrue if we agree that the site is bot driven.

I would guess it is many many years since a human being trawled the site looking for transgressors - at least a decade IMO.

Harder and harder to make accounts? It's been like that since the beginning.

One of the more important things nowadays is having a good IP. And not just any type of IP, but a Residential IP to create accounts.

Keep the bots happy, make sure you keep your buyers happy, stay out of the bots / reps radar and everything will run smooth.

Easier said than done ufcourse ...

What's the difference between a VPN and a Residential IP? Why do you prefer the Residential IP over the VPN? Thanks! I use a VPN on etsy and wonder if I should change to Residential IP.

A VPN shows a non-residential IP which means you're trying to hide your identity. Residential IP means it's more likely a real person trying to sign up on eBay.

Would it be a red flag if I changed my vpn to a residential IP after the account is 3 years old?
