Yes, it doesn't but it can overtime. Thats why I view this thing as a slippery slope.
If you don't manage your account, I think you can enter the zone of no return. Like you, I have been watching an account since last year, I've actually been watching many accounts partly to remind myself to stay focused.
This guy is from China somehow importing the goods into America and having agents ship the goods, had 100% feedback last year around this time. Then he got the first negative, tried to resolve it, but got more. Now his feedback rating is 89.3%. Once holidays come, he will still get more sales but he continues to sell the same stuff, unless he just stops selling for a year, the account has already been destroyed. It's just waiting to get suspended.
Every negative review I treat very seriously, and do whatever I can to remove it. Just because it doesn't impact sales, doesn't mean the ratio of complaints, and returns no one else sees but the seller increases dramatically as the score continues to drop.
I offer free 30 day returns for this reason, never used too. It's made selling on eBay much better. Yeah I lose money each month on returns and paying that extra fee but to me its worth it. My margins are over 60% generally so I can manage it.
Plus the big mega shops feedback means way less as I'm sure you know. It's all relative to what we sell and how many competitors. If I sell the same product as someone else and he has a lower score, I'm probably getting the sale.
Watching other shops is a practice I wish I did a long time ago, it's the best way to stay humble and not forget the main mission. I find many times after an account starts to get money, they begin more careless with customers, not all, but many in my field. Success can be the worst thing for many, you get lazy, take customers for granted. I've done it myself. I will never do it again.
