Buyer account suspended 5 mins after registration

This one is a bit odd. I checked out a few items and registered an account by going to the check out page. It didn’t prompt to ask me to verify my cellphone immediately. After the account is created, I abandoned the shopping cart like a normal shopper. Then 5 mins later, the account is suspended. I used Safari on an iPhone that has no existing cookies.

I’m thinking there could only be three reasons:
1. Proxy detected (IP is a real, clean, residential one matching the registration / shipping address)
2. Credit score indicates greater risk (I doubt though since I haven’t given eBay the SSN)
3. Abnormal user journey / behavior

What makes eBay suspends a buyer account so fast? I never messaged anyone if it thinks I’m a bot.

I didn’t add any card. It’s less than $30.

So much information missing for an informed discussion OP.

Did you register a US Account? Are you located in the US with US IP? 1st series of qs.

It's an AI suspicious behavior auto ban, this could be for all sorts of reasons but in my experience sometimes it plain just gets it wrong.

Could also be due to what proxy is being used - perhaps an overabused one that eb has identified as problematic

I think eBay algo is intentionally set to ban as many suspicious accounts as possible. They have more than enough sellers and not enough buyers. They do not care about new sellers because they can become a liability for lawsuits etc ... Most new accounts are suspended for not good reason or reason that is just not justified. It's just a co incidence that you happen to be someone who is creating mass accounts. But this can literally happen to a completely legitimate person who wants to sell on ebay.

We won't know for sure aside from if they suspend a buyer account then this is a major red flag.

They don't typically ban buyers.

Got it! Buyer accounts are used also to defraud sellers and also as means to create seller accounts. eBay is fully aware of it. I am sure.

Re: Buyer account suspended 5 mins after registration

The reason why my buyer accounts were getting suspended days after sometimes a week or 2 weeks after its creation is most likely due to ebay algo discovering that I was using VM.

Makes sense from the pattern/activity

Or you could be completely wrong. Old eBay stealth rules apply to setting up buyer accounts

I'd be surprised. Our accounts are still good in VMs but there are not your regular Vmware / Virtual box VMs.

Re: Buyer account suspended 5 mins after registration

Probably proxy. I used one about 2 years ago, and my account had bunch of issues. It ended up getting suspended within about 15 days of using it, but within 5 days me starting to use a proxy. So, moving forward I only use static real IP.

If you want a buying account, easier way is to buy a cheap phone like T-mobile, have a cheap plan, then use the app for this. If needed you can always factory restore the phone to erase everything and start over again.

Yes use anti detect browser that incorporates VirtualBox however I am pretty much getting rid of it as I found better solution and a lot cheaper.

I have t-mobile, the phone is like $150 and you can have plans low at $15 a month. You can do a factory reset and wash the phone. I don't believe there are any traces, not enough eBay could ever detect.

I have competitors that I actually know, suppliers of mine in China who I parted ways with, are copying me now, and undercutting my prices. For example I charge $20, they do $19.50. Then copy my titles etc. It has started to piss me off.

So, what I'm going to do is exactly what I'm suggesting; creating a buyer account and buying their goods then leaving negative feedback. I feel 100% justified in doing so, and I know they won't handle it well, totally clueless and their accounts will snowball negatively. Well deserved! And my method proves correct.

I can assure you negative feedback to not affect your account. I know this from personal experience.

Disagree.

Take one negative feedback, that opens the door for a higher probability it occurs again shortly after. If I left a negative review saying slow shipping, and I know everyone who buys from him experiences slow shipping, chances are greater more will leave negative reviews after the first one happens.

It is like pin pricking a balloon.

People are followers as well. If someone buys something and is upset then checks reviews and sees others leaving similar reviews they are much more inclined to do the same. Feedback itself doesn't cause impact but causes internal issues like more return requests, more claims being opened, and just more problems in general.

Unless you manage this properly, there is a point of no going back. Unless you stop selling on the account and/or stop selling what you're selling which most never do either.
